MEADVILLE, Pa. Allegheny made three of four free throws in the final 21 seconds to put the game out of reach. Guard Bill Babe led the Gators with 11 points while Ryan Hollihan scored 10. Jimmy Savage pulled down 11 rebounds. Thiel (2-5, 0-1 PAC) shot 18-of-52 from the field and 4-of-11 from the free throw line. Allegheny was 15-of-48 from the floor and 15-of-29 from the charity stripe. Joe Herrmann was the Tomcats' leading scorer with 13 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds with five blocks. Brandon Mirizio (Kennedy Catholic) scored nine while freshman Greg Hawes (Howland) had nine rebounds with five blocks.
Bethany 62, Marietta 55
MARIETTA James Wallace scored a team-high 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field and Bethany outscored Marietta 34-28 in the second half to secure the victory. Ryan Besancon had 14 points and Brody Jackson had 11 for Bethany (7-3), while former Ursuline High standout Marc Palermo scored six points. The 62 points were the lowest in a Bethany win in two years. For Marietta (2-4), Matt Phillips scored 20 points and Matt Rucker added nine points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Hiram 97, Grove City 93, 2 OT
GROVE CITY, Pa. Michael McDevitt scored 21 points to lead five Hiram players in double figures and the Terriers outscored Grove City 8-4 in the second overtime to seal the win. It was the second straight year the two teams have gone to overtime. Kevin Shaffer (18 points), Shawn DeJohn (16), Mike Staley (15) and Brandon Pool (12) each finished in double figures for Hiram (2-4), which led 42-34 at halftime. For Grove City (3-5), Ryan Gibson scored 20 points, while Shawn Carr (16 points), Mark Smith (14) and Craig Hallman (12) joined him in double figures.
WOMEN
Allegheny 66, Grove City 50
GROVE CITY, Pa. Jennifer Latronica scored 14 points on 6 of 17 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds for Allegheny (8-1), which outscored Grove City 35-21 in the second half to pull away. Meghan Vasilisin added 12 points in the win. For Grove City (2-7), Shannon Overdorff had 12 points and Rachel McCoy added 11 points and seven rebounds. The Wolverines shot just 8 of 30 from the field in the second of half.
Ursuline 77, Hiram 67
PEPPER PIKE, Ohio Whitney Blackburn scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures as Ursuline outscored Hiram 45-35 in the second half to earn the victory. Jessica Wood had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Ursuline, while Kayla Krzynowek had 13 points and Tiffany Gwin added 10. Cassie Bedard scored 29 points to lead Hiram, while Abbey Gorby had 14.
