Amber Bodrick scores 20 but Thiel loses
Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls) had 23 points in Westminster's 84-79 win.
GRANVILLE Amber Bodrick, a Boardman native, scored 20 points for Thiel in a losing cause as the Tomcats lost in the consolation game of the Denison University Big Red Classic to Transylvania, 101-56.
Bodrick, a Mooney High graduate, also had three rebounds and three steals for the Tomcats (3-4), while Fontella Jones, a Farrell native, added 12 points and three rebounds. Julie Leach led the Pioneers with 34 points and 10 rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan 71, Hiram 44
DELAWARE Ohio Wesleyan had a commanding 40-22 lead at intermission, then cruised to 71-44 victory over Hiram Saturday in a women's college basketball game.
Rachel Messaros scored 14 points to pace Wesleyan (2-4, 1-0) in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener. Cassie Bedard led the Terriers (1-2, 0-1) with 10 points.
Westminster 84, Muskingum 79
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. Westminster (4-2), which had four players in double figures, rallied in the second half to pull out the victory.
Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls High) paced the Titans with 23 points. Emilee Ackerman added 16, while Terese Marazalek and Nicole Fee had 16 and 11 apiece. Renee Metzger led Muskingum (2-4) with 20 points.
Allegheny 58, Kenyon 54
MEADVILLE, Pa. Allegheny (4-1, 1-0 NCAC), behind five points at intermission, outscored Kenyon (1-4, 0-1) 34-25 in the second half to win.
Brittany Bell led the balanced Allegheny scoring attack with 14 points. Katie Kestler and Stephanie Wolf each added 13 and Emilie Simone had 11. Hilary Gowins led Kenyon with 18.
West Chester 68, Slippery Rock 63
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. West Chester built a 36-26 lead by halftime, then held off The Rock's late rally.
Dominique scored 18 points to spark West Chester to its first victory of the season that snapped a three-game losing streak. Nikki Presto led The Rock (1-4) with 18 points. Amanda Nero added 13.
Seton Hill 51, Geneva 50
BEAVER FALLS, Pa Seton Hill led 31-16 at intermission, but Geneva fought back with a 34-20 second half surge.
Renee Rawding and Jackie Anthony sparked the Golden Tornadoes (4-2) with 15 and 14 points respectively. Elena Radenkovic led Seton Hill with 16.
Rio Grande 85, Walsh 62
CANTON Rio Grande (8-4, 2-1) led from start to finish, in defeating Walsh (2-6, 1-2) in a American Mideast Conference South game.
Rio placed all five starters in double figures and was led by Britney Walker's 19 points. Sarah Drabinski added 17 points and 13 rebounds and Candace Ferguson scored 15 and had 10 rebounds.
Walsh's Ingrid Brainard led all scorers with 22 points. Eulise Dickerson added 16 points and had seven rebounds.
Men
GAMBIER Kenyon outscored Allegheny 38-35 in the second half as it posted a 61-59 victory in a North Coast Athletic Conference game.
Korey Haddox paced Kenyon (4-3, 1-0), which had nine players in the scoring column, with 11 points. Ryan Hollihan led Allegheny (3-2, 0-1) with 16 points.
Ohio Wesleyan 90, Hiram 49
DELAWARE Thirteen players broke into the scoring column for Wesleyan with four of them scoring double figures.
Dustin Rudegeair paced Wesleyan (6-1, 1-0 NCAC) with 19 points. The only player to scored in double figures for Hiram (0-3, 0-1) was Michael McDevitt with 11.
Thiel 77, Lancaster Bible 66
LANCASTER, Pa. Joe Herrmann scored a season-high 30 points to go along with 15 rebounds, five assists and five blocks for the Tomcats (2-3). The Tomcats connected on 72 percent of its shots (32-of 44) and had a 39-20 rebounding advantage. Wid Lyman led the Chargers (4-5) with 18 points.
Slippery Rock 96, West Chester 89
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. The Rock had to go overtime as it outscored West Chester 18-11 to prevail. Slippery Rock put six players in double figures with Jamar Scales leading the way with 21 points and Brandon Thompson had 19. Shawn Werdt led West Chester (4-2) with 22.
Walsh 98, Rio Grande 90
CANTON Walsh (5-2, 3-0 AMC S) placed five players in double figures in defeating the University of Rio Grande (4-6, 1-2) in a American Mideast Conference South game.
Brandon Speck and Derek Chappell paced the Cavs with 18 points each.
