Scouting report: Ohio Northern defeated Otterbein, 26-0, last Sunday while Mount Union routed Heidelberg last Sunday, 58-0. The Polar Bears and Purple Raiders share first place in the OAC with Capital. Mount Union has been overwhelming the opposition with a 63.8-point scoring average to opponents' 5.2, and the Purple Raiders also are averaging 569.5 total yards per game to opponents' 149.8. Ohio Northern, meanwhile, is averaging 28.3 points per game to opponents' 7.5, and 343.5 total yards to the opposition's 145.2. Mount Union is led by quarterback Mike Jorris, who has passed for 768 yards on 42-for-62 and 14 TDs, and WR Pierre Garcon with 19 catches for 431 yards and eight TDs. Ohio Northern is led by RB R.J. Meadows with 552 rushing yards on 73 carries and eight TDs.

Scouting report: For the second consecutive week, the outcome of the Westminster's game was decided by place-kicking as the Titans fell to Grove City, 21-20, in their first PAC game. Westminster drew within one point of the Wolverines with an 11-play, 68-yard TD drive capped by a 5-yard TD pass from freshman QB Kevin Franz to freshman RB Brian Becker with just 24 seconds remaining. However, freshman PK Fred Romeo (Poland High) missed the extra-point kick. Last week, Romeo kicked the game-winning, 21-yard field goal in Westminster's 27-24 double-overtime win over Adrian. Franz led the Titans against Grove City with 295 yards passing on 28-for-36 and three touchdowns. His other two TD passes were to Brett Ziegler, both covering 26 yards. Ziegler caught a game-high seven passes for 93 yards. Thomas More, meanwhile, lost to Waynesburg last Saturday, 23-16. Saturday's game also will match the PAC's top two tacklers so far this season in Westminster's Jordan Blinn (10.2 stops per game) and Thomas More's Mark Carlisle (11.2).

Scouting report: Thiel rolled up 494 yards of total offense in its 49-7 win in a PAC game at Bethany last Saturday. Sophomore TB Dan Hess paced the Tomcats with a season-high 121 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Thiel's defense limited Bethany to 204 total yards and just 1 net yard rushing in 21 attempts. Senior CB Steve Boyle had five tackles and a pair of interceptions while junior DE Chris Lorber added four tackles and two sacks and senior OLB Chris Hlinka (Chaney High) had a team-high six stops and 1.5 for losses. Junior TB Steve Minton rushed for 85 yards and a pair of scores. Boyle now has 10 career interceptions to tie Maurice Simpson for No. 5 on the school's all-time list. Washington & Jefferson did not play last week.

Scouting report: Grove City earned its first win over Westminster in 27 years last Saturday with a 21-20 victory. QB Andrew DiDonato ran in from the 2-yard line with 2:42 left to give the Wolverines the lead. DiDonato also threw two TD passes while sophomore K Greg Collins went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts, his first kick being Grove City's first successful placement of the season. In other Wolverines' highlights: Freshman Matt Weaver had 164 all-purpose yards, including a team-leading six catches for 75 yards; Junior SE Jay Yanak caught a TD pass in the second quarter, Matt Weil ran for 70 yards on 19 carries, punter Henry Johnston placed all four of his punts inside the 20 and Bill Waugh and Ian Minster each had eight tackles. This Saturday's game will be Bethany's homecoming. The Bison's T.J. Parker, a senior WR from Austintown Fitch High, made nine catches for 73 yards in his team's 49-7 loss to Thiel last Saturday.

Scouting report: Allegheny beat Denison, 23-6, last week while defending NCAC champion Wabash defeated Earlham, 48-15, to stretch its NCAC winning streak to 11 games. Senior QB Jimmy Savage led Allegheny past Denison by completing 23 of 44 passes to 10 different receivers for 293 yards and two TDs. His 44 attempts were the second-highest total in school history. The Gators' senior RB, Mario Tarquino, rushed for 95 yards in 24 carries, the second time this season he was held shy of the 100-yard mark. Tarquino passed Allegheny head coach Mark Matlak (1978) for seventh place on the school career rushing list. Junior Michael Cox led the Gators' defense with an interception and fumble recovery.

Scouting report: Hiram lost to Oberlin, 28-14, last week after battling the Yeomen to a 14-14 tie after the first half; while Kenyon defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 24-21. Sophomore QB Trevor Henderson rushed for two TDs for the Terriers, including a 4-yard run just before intermission. That score was set up by a pass interception from freshman Alex Ream, who picked off the ball at the Oberlin 19 and returned it 15 yards to the 4-yard line to set up Henderson's tally.
