William R. Anderson Jr., 48

CORTLAND – William R. Anderson Jr., 48, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2008.

He was born Feb. 21, 1960, in Warren, a son of William R. Sr. and Rita D. Walzer Anderson and lived most of his life in Warren.

“Bill” was a self-employed carpenter, an avid golfer and enjoyed NASCAR and camping.

He leaves his mother, Rita Anderson of Cortland; one sister, Joni L. (Douglas) Gillette of Vienna; his beloved aunt, Toots of Hubbard; and a nephew, Ryan D. Gillette of West Carrollton.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Ruth L. Dotson- Irvine, 93

“Together Again”


YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for Mrs. Ruth Irvine, 93, who departed this life Friday, Nov. 28.

She was born July 6, 1915 in Red Star, Ala., the daughter of Edward and Julia Winston Dotson.

She was a homemaker and loved her family dearly.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served as Mother of the Church, was a member of the Deaconess and Missionary Ministries, was a former Sunday school teacher and helped to form the Youth Usher Board.

Mrs. Irvine leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Mrs. Mildred Turner, with whom she made her home; a sister, Carrie Conner of Cleveland; three grandchildren whom she helped rear, Sonia (Mike) Brown of Pittsburgh, Charles (JoAnn) Turner of Mineral Ridge and Arthur (Donna) Turner Jr. of Boardman; seven great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Eugene, who passed away April 1, 1990; two brothers; and nine sisters.

Friends may call one hour prior to services, from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at the church.

Edward A. Duda, 79

YOUNGSTOWN – Edward A. Duda, 79, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 9, 1929 in Allison, Pa., a son of the late Stanley and Mary (Skvarek) Duda.

He was a 1947 graduate of Redstone Township High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He later worked as a service tech. at Monroe Systems, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of St. Matthias Church, life member of Knights of Columbus No. 4471, where he served as treasurer, Golden Echo’s Seniors Group, the St. Matthias Sacred Heart and Rosary Prayer Society, and Holy Name Society. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the church and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and belonged to the Marian Prayer Group.

In the 1960s and early 1970s he was the Ways and Means chairman and president for the Mahoning Valley Kidney Foundation. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving are his children, Karen (David) Aeppli of Santa Ana, Calif., Joanna Armstrong of Youngstown, Ed (Ann) Duda Jr. of Greensboro, N.C., and Kathy (Chris) Roosa of Bradenton, Fla.; brothers, Joseph Duda of Uniontown, Pa., Stanley (Pete) Duda of Whittier, Calif., Tom Duda of San Clemente, Calif., and Paul Duda of Whittier, Calif.; sisters, Stella Swansiger of Struthers, Rose Mary Kordich of Allison, Pa., and Frances Coking of Tempe, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Erica (Justin) Jackson, Angela (Troy) Onesti, Carl Duda and Andrew Duda.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nevada M. (Ragan) Duda, whom he married May 22, 1954, and she died June 5, 1999 and two brothers, John and Tony Duda.

Friends will be received Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home Inc., 258 Poland Ave. in Struthers,

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthias Church. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Charles E. Edinger, 77

BERLIN CENTER – There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Charles E. Edinger, 77, who passed away Saturday morning at Salem Community Hospital.

Charles was born July 2, 1931 in Rimersburg, Pa., a son of the late Raymond and Elsie (Stitt) Edinger.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Charles retired as an iron worker with the Local 207.

His wife, the former Anita Dolby, whom he married March 28, 1955, passed away in 1989.

Charles is survived by three children, Debbie DeFelice, Charles Edinger and Mrs. Belinda Buchanan, all of Berlin Center; two brothers, Richard D. Eddinger of Diamond and Milford Edinger of Rimersburg, Pa.; and a grandson, Charles Edinger Jr.

Besides his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

George Martin Ellis, 85

WARREN – George Martin Ellis, 85, peacefully entered into eternity Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at home surrounded by family.

He was born Sept. 4, 1923 in Niles, to Martin and Elizabeth (Csubak) Ellis.

George lived in Hungary from age four to 16. Upon returning to the United States, he joined the CCC Corp, serving in Idaho and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a WWII veteran serving in Africa and Europe and received the Victory Medal.

George spoke fluent Hungarian, enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. He attended the North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was a member of the CCC Corp chapter 57. He retired from Wean United as a machinist.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Reszegi) Ellis, whom he married Oct. 29, 1949; a brother, Andy (Margaret) Ellis of Niles; two sons, Dr. Martin G. (Ruth) Ellis of North Jackson and W. Frank (Janet) Ellis of Howland; a daughter, Laura J. (James) Damicone of Hudson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary; and stepmother, Judith.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 1, 2008, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, with Rev. Myron Daum officiating an 11 a.m. funeral service, with military honors to follow.

Elaine E. Hanley

POLAND – Services will be at noon Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman for Elaine E. Hanley who died Saturday afternoon at her residence. The service will be officiated by Rev. Chris Woolley the minister from the Christian Life Church, where Elaine often attended.

Elaine was born in Morgantown, W.Va., a daughter of Dallas and Ethel Carroll and moved to the Youngstown area as a child. She graduated from Liberty High School. Elaine worked as a model for Livingstons, Strouss and Bloomingdales in Cleveland. During WWII, she worked to help broadcast the news as a type setter.

Her husband, William H. Hanley, whom she married April 6, 1946, passed away on Feb. 22, 1977.

Elaine will be sadly missed by her son, Rick (Kimberly) Hanley of Poland; a daughter, Pamela (Patrick) Houghton of Florida; three granddaughters, Lori Buhl of Boardman, Paula Anderson of Florida, Nicole Houghton of Florida; a sister, Jeannette Zellers of Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Grope and a grandson, William Houghton.

Theodore Haydn, 81

COLLINS – Theodore Haydn, 81, died Saturday morning at New Life Hospice, after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Elyria, to John and Elizabeth (Tarrak) Haydn.

Mr. Haydn graduated from LaGrange Keystone High School. He retired from banking after 25 years. After he was retired, he worked at the Gerber Funeral Home in Wakeman for 10 years.

During his earlier adult years, he was a Boy Scout leader, 4-H advisor, and a Methodist youth advisor in LaGrange. He was the first president of the LaGrange Civic Federation and instrumental in getting a doctor in the community. He was a Master of the Old Glory Grange. A member of Wakeman Grange and served as treasurer. He was a 50 year Grange member. Mr. Haydn was also a member of LaGrange Masonic Lodge No. 399 for 50 years, 32nd degree Mason, and a past secretary. He was also an Eastern Star member for 50 years. During WWII, Mr. Haydn served in the U.S. Army under general George Patten in European Theater.

He also served as a director of Easter Seal in Lorain County for 35 years, and was instrumental in starting Easter Seal in Huron County. He served on the Lorain County Fair Board for eight years. He also belonged to the Norwalk Lions Club, as a past president and cabinet secretary. He and his wife attended 17 International Lions Conventions. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norwalk and served in many positions of the church council. He was also a member of the Lorain County Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland.

Mr. Haydn married Louise (Balogh) Haydn on Sept. 18, 1954. They lived in Collins for 39 years.

He is survived by his wife; two brothers, John (Betty) Haydn and William (Charlotte) Haydn, both of LaGrange; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Snyder and Ethel Lower, both of North Lima; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the Morman Funeral Home in Wakeman.

Masonic services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m., with a funeral service at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main St. in Norwalk, with Rev. Roger Smith officiating.

Stanislaw Jankiewicz

MINERAL RIDGE – Funeral services will be held at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market Street, on Wednesday, December 3, at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m. in St. Christine Church in Youngstown for Stanislaw Jankiewicz who died early Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Jankiewicz was born in Poland, Europe on March 7, 1948, a son of Teofil and Hanna Jankiewicz, and came to the United States and this area in 1978.

Stanislaw was a member of the church and also of Polish National Alliance Group 827. He was employed at Amex Dies as a lathe operator for 30 years.

Stanislaw is survived by his wife, the former Anna Kurowska, whom he married on December 12, 2002; by his mother, who still resides in Poland, Europe; by his three daughters, Ella (Chris) Ohlsen of Las Vegas, Kasia Jankiewicz of Austintown, and Renee Jankiewicz, also of Austintown; by his brother, Mieczystaw Jankiewicz of Youngstown; and by his sister, Halina Jankiewicz, also of Poland, Europe.

Besides his father, Stanislaw is preceded in death by his first wife, the former Alina Krupa, whom he married on June 17, 1978 and who died on June 22, 2000.

Louis Kopachy, 84

CANFIELD – Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church for Louis Kopachy, 84, who passed away peacefully Sunday morning.

Mr. Kopachy was born June 7, 1924 in Youngstown, a son of Paul and Amelia Magyar Kopacsi.

“Lou” lived most of his life on the west side of Youngstown. He was a machinist for Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Campbell Works, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, where he was a past elder.

Lou attended the breakfast club of the retired machinist of Youngstown Sheet & Tube and enjoyed surf fishing at Cape Hatteras, N.C. with the Labrie family. He also was a Civil War buff and a flint napper. Lou was The Vindicator “Cook of the Week” and loved cooking. He graduated from Chaney High School in 1942.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Demko, whom he married Oct. 7, 1950; a son, Louis Michael (Susan) of Youngstown; two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Gyomber of Orwell and Nancy (Patrick) York of Canfield; six grandchildren, Erin Gyomber, Michael (Cristi) Kopachy, Bryan Kopachy, Louis Kopachy and Natalie and Patrick York; and a great-grandson, Jack Kopachy.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Agnone and a grandson, Stephen Louis Gyomber.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home in Youngstown and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

John E. Moore, 55

POLAND – There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 4 at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue, Boardman followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, Poland, for John E. Moore, who passed away Saturday, November 29 following a long illness.

John was born May 9, 1953 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph W. Moore Jr. and Loretta E. Mitchell.

He was a graduate of Chaney High School and The Ohio State University.

John was employed by the Bureau of Workman’s Compensation.

He will always be remembered by his sister, Mary C. Moore of Poland, and his brother, Joe Moore of Staten Island, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia L. Moore.

Patricia H. Naples, 88

POLAND – Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at The McCauley Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. in St. Edward Church for Patricia H. Naples, 88, who passed Saturday morning, a day after her birthday, at Hospice House surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Mrs. Naples was born Nov. 28, 1920 in Youngstown a daughter of Thomas G. and Agnes Lyden Naughton, and was a lifelong member of the community.

Mrs. Naples was a mother of seven children and had a deep love for her entire family. She was a member of the church, a graduate of The Rayen School, volunteered for numerous organizations and attended Kent State University.

A Navy veteran of WWII, Mrs. Naples, along with her sister, Margie, were the first women to enlist in WWII.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Carmen, of more than 62 years, whom she married June 22, 1946; sons, T. Gregory (Kathleen) of Hudson, R. William of Twinsburg, and Dr. Patrick (Sandy) of Medina; daughters Mary Ann (Rick) Vogt of Akron, Mary Louise Julian of Cortland, Judy (Doug) Soeder of Northfield and Carolyn (John) Barry of Hubbard; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Naughton.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Naughton and wife Dorothy, and John Naughton; sisters Mary Louise Johns and husband Victor, Virginia Deak and husband Paul and Marjorie Ash and husband James.

George W. Ondrey, 87

STRUTHERS – Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for George W. Ondrey, 87, who died Saturday morning in Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

George was born October 24, 1921 in Struthers, a son of John and Mary Balun Ondrey and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a member of Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Catholic Church in Boardman and had worked at Republic Steel for 37 years, retiring in 1983.

Besides his wife, the former Sophie Kuna, whom he married May 13, 1950, he leaves two daughters, Debra (William) Flaugh and Sandra (Robert) Semko, both of Beaver Township; two granddaughters, Samantha and Annie; and one step-grandson, Christopher.

Ernest N. Patrick, 85

POLAND – Ernest N. Patrick, 85, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the Andover Village Retirement Center.

Mr. Patrick was born Friday, Sept. 9, 1923, in Struthers, a son of Nathaniel and Bessie Emery Patrick.

He was a WWII Army veteran, where he served in the 592nd Boat and Shore Engineering Regiment. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, with 4 Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He retired in 1988 from the Local 207, where he was a structural Iron worker. After retirement, he loved fishing, hunting, and gardening

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Patrick, and one daughter, Sharon Mosconi of Boardman; three sons, William Patrick of Atwater, Robert (Angela) Patrick of Campbell, and Ronald Patrick of Youngstown; one brother, Floyd Patrick; eight grandchildren, Chris Patrick, Deanne McGurty, William Patrick, Erin Smith, Angela Mosconi, Kari Patrick, Robert Patrick and Lisa Mosconi; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Dorothy Miller, whom he married Jan. 18, 1946, died March 3, 1995, and several siblings, Cecil Patrick, Esther Berletchik, Irene Meredith, Fred Patrick, Earl Patrick, and Alberta Whittaker.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.

Shirley H. Quimby, 81

SAFETY HARBOR, FLA. – There will be a funeral service held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Shirley H. Quimby, 81, formerly of Ohltown Road in Austintown, who passed away at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at her daughter’s home in New Port Richey, Fla.

Shirley was born May 29, 1927 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Main) Jones and was a graduate of Chaney High School.

Shirley retired in 1981 as head bank teller at the Home Savings & Loan in Austintown. She was a member of the Heritage United Methodist Church in Clearwater, Fla.

Shirley was married on Aug. 17, 1946 to Lewis E. Quimby and they were married for 44 years until his passing Nov. 29, 1990.

Shirley is survived by three children, Retired T/SGT Roger Quimby of Clearwater, Donald (Lynne) Quimby of Beech Grove, Ind. and Cynthia (David) Seckler of New Port Richey; a brother, Rolland (Mary Ellen) Jones of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Geraldine Patterson of Youngstown; and eight grandchildren, Randy (Sarah) Quimby, Rosalie Quimby, Melanie Quimby, Donald Quimby Jr., Anna Marie Quimby, Nicholas Quimby, Daniel Seckler and Courtney Seckler.

Besides her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by two sisters, Dolores Sudimak and Charlotte Jones.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Antoinette M. Soccorsy, 89

BOARDMAN – There will be funeral services at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Youngstown for Antoinette M. Soccorsy, 89, who passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 29, at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman.

Antoinette was born Aug. 21, 1919 in Youngstown, the daughter of Antonio and Elizabeth (Melone) Cipriano.

She attended The Rayen School and worked for the Youngstown Public Library. Antoinette did volunteer work at the former Woodside Receiving Hospital and various local nursing homes. Antoinette was a member of the Church and its Senior Citizens Group and Saint Monica Guild. She was a member of Ladies of Charity, past president of both the Assumption Guild and East Garden Club, member of the 500 Card Club, Parkinson Group, and Reserve Senior Volunteer Program.

Her husband, Anthony W. Soccorsy, whom she married Sept. 27, 1941, passed away Feb. 19, 1997.

She will always be remembered by her children, Mary Lou Soccorsy of Boardman, William A. Soccorsy of Austintown, and Anthony J. Soccorsy of Boardman; a grandson, William H. (Debbie) Soccorsy of Austintown; a great-grandson, William A. Soccorsy; a sister, Pauline Napolitano of Austintown; a stepbrother, Frank (Irene) Mezzapeso of Youngstown; and a stepsister, Mary Caputo of Boston.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Fucci and Jeannie Farinelli; and a stepbrother, Peter Mezzapeso.

Margaret K. Whitt, 84

CHAMPION – Margaret K. Whitt, 84, formerly of Girard, died Nov. 25, 2008 at Windsor House in Champion.

Margaret is survived by her children, Linda (William) Gray of Vienna Township, Pamela (Terry) Harper of Champion and Alfred V. Whitt Jr. of Girard; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Maxine Leaman of Baltimore, Maryland and Audrey Cook of Canton.

Funeral services have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Greenhaven Cemetery.

Eugenia “Jean” Yaniglos, 86

YOUNGSTOWN – Eugenia “Jean” Yaniglos, 86, of the city’s west side, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 30, 2008.

Eugenia, was born March 16, 1922 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Mary Lazuta Luchko, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of Chaney High School, was a homemaker and member of St. Brendan Church. She was a member of the church’s Altar & Rosary Society, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Mrs. Yaniglos leaves three sons, Stephen (Rosemary) Yaniglos of Boardman, James (Marlene) Yaniglos of Weslaco, Texas, and Richard (Donna) Yaniglos of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Patricia (Wayne) Walker of Louisville, Ky.; a sister; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jean will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her husband, Stephen J. Yaniglos, whom she married June 15, 1946, passed away Dec. 21, 2001. A sister is also deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Brendan Church will pray the rosary at 4:45 p.m.

Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and continue at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church on Oakwood Avenue.

Committal services will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
