Elvis Caraballo

BOARDMAN – After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Elvis passed peacefully into eternity on Sunday morning without pain while surrounded by loved ones. Having accepted Christ into his life, his family is comforted by the fact that he is now face-to-face with the Lord and other loved ones who had passed before him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Burgos; his father, Israel Caraballo; his mother-in-law, Virginia Altrudi; and his father-in-law, Joseph Altrudi.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jill; his five children, Anthony, Ariana, Michael, Alexa, and Nicholas; three sisters, Myrna (Dave) Dilullo, Arlene (Hector) Arroyo, and Minerva (Will) Lightner; one brother, Melvin Caraballo; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Altrudi and Linda Caraballo; many loving nieces and nephews; and his dog, Jimmy.

Elvis was actively involved in the community through Boardman Community Baseball and was blessed with a countless number of terrific friends. The family would like to thank the community for its continuous outpouring of support.

He will be remembered as a hard-working man, a loving husband, a wonderful father, a terrific brother, a fabulous uncle, a great friend, and a true inspiration to all who met him. Elvis truly lived his life to the fullest and encouraged everyone else to do the same. He showed everyone how to live, but also how to pass on.

While he is no longer with us, he will live on through the legacy of his children, the widespread actions of his good deeds, and in the hearts of all who had known him.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Victory Christian Center in Coitsville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman, where visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Olga Dubosh

BOARDMAN – Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home for Olga Dubosh who passed away Wednesday, her 95th birthday, at the Ron Joy Nursing Home in Boardman.

Mrs. Dubosh was born Nov. 19, 1913 in Lemont, Pa., a daughter of John and Mary Vavrek Furin and moved to Campbell as a child.

She graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1931. In the 1940s, she owned and operated Furin’s Food Market in Campbell. She was a member of St. Mark Eastern Orthodox Church and also of that church’s Ladies Society.

Olga is survived by her daughter, Sonia Dubosh-Young of West Middlesex, Pa.

Besides her husband, John Dubosh, whom she married Dec. 27, 1944 and who died Dec. 24, 2003, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Limberis; her brothers, John, Steve, Michael and Walter Furin; a son, John Dubosh; and a grandson, Isaac Young.

Interment took place at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Charles Louis Havaich, 86

NILES – Charles Louis Havaich, 86, passed away at 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at the Briarfield at Ashley Circle.

He was born in McDonald on Nov. 22, 1922, to Louis and Annabelle (Obaraz) Havaich and lived most of his life in this area.

Charles retired in 1985 after working 22 plus years as a crane operator at RMI Company. He was a member of St. Stephen Church, its Ushers Club, the Morning Mass Group and was a longtime Red Cross blood donor. An Army veteran of WWII, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant of the Headquarters Company 20th Tank Destroyer Group.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Logar) Havaich, whom he married Sept. 29, 1945; two sons, Thomas (Connie) Havaich of Carroll and Robert (Marcey) Havaich of Austintown; two sisters, Helen Misel of Niles and Barbara Paulicivic of Weathersfield Township; four granddaughters, Lynn, Tina, Cari and Stacey; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy and two brothers, George and Walter Havaich.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Church with Rev. Thomas Kraszewski as the celebrant.

Burial will be at Kerr Cemetery.

Ernest “Ernie” S.

Kalenits, 82

POLAND – A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers for Ernest “Ernie” S. Kalenits, 82, who died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Ernie was born March 29, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Helen Yuhas Kalenits and was a lifelong area resident.

Ernie was the well-known operator of Ernie’s Barber Shop on the West Side of Youngstown for 29 years. He then worked in security and maintenance for St. Elizabeth Health Center for 14 years, retiring in 1991.

He attended Chaney High School before enlisting in the Navy during WWII.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Church and SNPJ Lodge No. 776. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, Hungarian cooking, polka music and jigsaw puzzles.

He leaves his wife, the former Cathy Tonya, whom he married December 4, 1982; two daughters, Suzanne (Ed) Whittaker of Amherst and Barbara “BJ” (Chuck) Longbottom of Columbiana; two sons, David (Mary) Kalenits of Streetsboro and Chuck (Annette) Kalenits of Austintown; a sister Helen Solomon of Youngstown; four brothers, Julius (Edith) Kalenits of Youngstown, William (Kay) Kalenits of Tampa, Fla., Frank (Ann Marie) Kalenits and Don (Jo Ann) Kalenits both of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one due in December; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Prince.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, family and friends.

Ronald Bruce Marchetti, 58

BOARDMAN – Ronald Bruce Marchetti, 58, formerly of Canterbury Lane, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, Nov. 22, 2008, at Beeghly Oaks with his loved ones by his side.

Ronald was born Oct. 26, 1950 in Youngstown, a son of the late Louis and Adeline DeSalvo Marchetti, and lived in the Youngstown and Cleveland areas his entire life.

He was a 1969 graduate of Boardman High School and had attended Penn Ohio Business College.

Ron served proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and unfortunately returned home with a permanent disability.

He was a member of St. Luke Church, a fan of the Cleveland Indians, enjoyed the outdoors and talking on his cell phone, and most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Ronald leaves several aunts, uncles and cousins, including his cousin and guardian, Richard Svetlak; his wife, Lisa; and their children, Meghan, Ricky and Kristyn.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 24, 2008, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and continue at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Church in Boardman.

Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ronald’s name to Hospice of the Valley.

The family extends thanks and appreciation to the staff and management of Beeghly Oaks for the kindness and care shown to Ron during his stay, and a special thank you to Ron’s “girlfriends” at Hospice of the Valley.

Patricia Jean Miller, 68

MCDONALD – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Woodland Park United Methodist Church in McDonald for Patricia Jean Miller, 68, who died early Saturday morning at her residence.

She was born July 6, 1940 in Minneapolis, a daughter of Orlando and Betty Kerswell.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1962 to 1963, and she spent her adult life as a homemaker raising her two children.

She was a longtime member of the Woodland Park United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the lay speakers group and various other areas. She enjoyed sewing, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, John W. “Jack” Miller, whom she married Sept. 21, 1963 and two daughters, Martha (Marc) Centofanti of Struthers and Teresa Gillespie of Mineral Ridge. She also leaves behind a brother, Robert Kerswell of Minneapolis, and two grandchildren, Jessica Erin and Zachary Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Claudia Kerswell.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Woodland Park United Methodist Church in Pat’s memory.

Joseph Mochtyak, 78

POLAND - Joseph Mochtyak, 78, of Poland, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at his residence with his family at his side.

Mr. Mochtyak was born Thursday, April 17, 1930 in Campbell, a son of George and Elizabeth Keba Mochtyak, and was a lifelong area resident

Mr. Mochtyak was a 1948 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, and a United States Army Veteran.

He worked as a truck driver for many years, and also worked for Poland Countryside Furniture and Austintown Tool and Die. He retired April 3, 1996 after 40 years.

He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Church, Bessemer Sportsman Club and several bowling leagues. He loved to go camping and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to build model trains and remote control airplanes.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Theresa Zofie, whom he married October 17, 1953; five children, Daniel (Sherri) Mochtyak of Poland, Terrie (Steve Hirt) Price of Poland, Linda (Jack) Evans of Youngstown, Leonard (Nancy) Mochtyak of Poland, and Sharon Mochtyak of Youngstown; one brother, George (Jean) Mochtyak of Poland; and nine grandchildren, Peter Mochtyak, Andrea Mochtyak, Jimmy Petruzzi, Samuel Price, Sarah Price, Ethan Price, Benjamin Mochtyak, Blaine Mochtyak and Brian Mochtyak.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Mihalov.

Funeral services will be held at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Victor Romza officiating.

Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, where prayer services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m.

Marianne Navin

YOUNGSTOWN – Marianne Navin was a beloved sister and aunt.

Born May 13, 1929 in Youngstown to John P. and Marie Broderick Navin., she was an active alumnus of both Ursuline High School, Class of 1947, and Youngstown College, Class of 1951.

She enjoyed keeping up with her classmates at the monthly Ursuline breakfasts.

Marianne was known for her extremely generous and charitable nature. She was an active life long parishioner at St. Edward Church and also a member of ACTION, Catholic Collegiate Association and the American Business Women’s Association.

A florist for 40 years, Marianne operated the family business, Navin’s Flowers, on Belmont Avenue. After she retired, she delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Bill Voyzey of San Diego; brother-in-law, Joe Crogan of Youngstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Marianne died on Saturday evening surrounded by family at Hospice House.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Crogan and Joan Gerst.

David A. Petrosky, 55

WARREN – David A. Petrosky, 55, passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland.

David was born Aug. 2, 1953 in Warren, the son of Albert C. and Eda (Villecco) Petrosky and lived in the area all of his life.

David was a 1971 graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School and was employed with Copperweld Steel until its closing.

David was a U.S. Army veteran.

David was self taught on a wide variety of subjects. He was a daily visitor at the Warren Public Library and worked out and played basketball at the Warren YMCA daily. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, bicycling and attending flea markets. He had a quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, music and had many collections. He had a photographic memory and could talk for hours on a subject about which he was passionate. He was well known throughout the country and at local gun shows for his knowledge and repair of 22 Rimfire rifles and sights.

David will be deeply missed by his three sons, Jesse of Baltimore, Brian (Kim) of Warren and Anthony of Lakewood; a daughter, Angela Petrosky of Warren; his mother, Eda Petrosky of Warren; a sister, Barbara Eschman of Warren; four grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately know as “Papa Dude,” Skyler, Rylee, Dominique and Travis; a nephew, Justin Eschman; a good friend, Joyce Fleischer; and by a host of friends.

David was preceded in death by his father.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Roberts Clark Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior in leaving for church.

Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Public Library or the Warren YMCA.

The family wishes to thank the Trauma Team, 5A SICU staff at Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center for their loving care and attention given to David, and to all the friends who called, prayed and sent cards.

Everett F. Seidner, 83

NEWTON FALLS – Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown for Everett F. Seidner, 83, formerly of Petersburg, who passed away early Sunday morning at his residence.

Everett was born Dec. 3, 1924 in East Palestine, a son of Merl and Tressa Burkey Seidner. He was a lifelong area resident of Petersburg.

He worked in construction for United Excavating Co. and was a self-employed hardwood floor finisher for many years. He served in the Navy during WWII as a first class seamen and served four tours overseas.

He was a member of the New Springfield Lutheran Church and the VFW Post No. 2799 in New Springfield, also known as the Triangle Post, and the VFW Post No. 3332 in Newton Falls. He was also a member of the Bessemer Croatian Club and the St. Lucy Club and Johnson Club, both in Hillsville, Pa.

Everett married the former Virginia Leipply on Dec. 15, 1946 and she passed away on Nov. 11, 1996.

He leaves behind six sons, Ronald (Laura) Seidner of Petersburg, Kenneth (Judi) Seidner of Jacksonville, Fla., Terry (Marsha) Seidner and Blane Seidner, both of Petersburg, Kevin (Beth) Seidner of Monaca, Pa. and Evan (Mary) Seidner of Youngstown; one daughter, Bonnie (Michael) Woods of Pulaski, Pa.; two sisters, Ruth McMillen of Poland and Julia Leipply of Haines City, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Everett also leaves his extended family, Betty Zigler, his companion, and her children, Joe Zigler, Don (Chris) Zigler, Tim (Ronda) Zigler and Sherrie Zigler.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Charles, Arthur, Harry, and Roy Seidner; two sisters, Iva Biss and Doris Redman; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday before the service at the funeral home.

John D. Sopko, 89

POLAND – John D. Sopko, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at his residence with his family at his side.

Mr. Sopko was born Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1919 in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Anna Estock Sopko, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1937 graduate of South High School and a WWII Army veteran, having been stationed in Africa, Italy, and Greece. He had received the Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

Mr. Sopko had worked as a purchasing agent for Cold Metal Products, retiring in 1989 after 50 years. He was a member of the Faith Community Church and a 50 year member with the Wick Lodge F. & A.M. No. 481 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He loved bowling, and golf and was in numerous leagues.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Florence Wietelmann, whom he married Oct. 1, 1949; one daughter, Susan Sopko of Youngstown; and one son, J. Thomas Sopko of Medford, Mass.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Robert J. Sopko; one sister, Pauline Parks; and two brothers, Herbert and David Sopko.

Funeral services will be held at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at 1 p.m., where family and friends will be received Tuesday from noon to 12:45 p.m.

John Soroka, 79

YOUNGSTOWN – John Soroka, 79, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 21, 2008, at Briarfield Manor in Austintown.

John was born July 19,1929 in Youngstown, a son of Daniel and Mary Mondiak Soroka, and lived most of his life in the Youngstown area.

He was a graduate of Chaney High School and a veteran of the Korean War.

John was a self-employed architectural painter, working in Youngstown and Dallas for 24 years, retiring in 1993.

He attended the Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing.

John leaves a brother, Daniel (Geri) Soroka of Boardman; a sister, Helen Nezbola of Ellsworth; and many nieces and nephews.

His wife, Lorraine McGuiness Soroka; three brothers, William, Michael and Steve Soroka; and a sister, Julia Smyczynski, are deceased.

There are no calling hours or services.

Jane B. (Standohar) Vezse, 93

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – Former Youngstown resident Jane B. (Standohar) Vezse, 93, peacefully died of natural causes on Nov. 20, 2008 in Arlington.

Mrs. Vezse was born on Nov. 7, 1915, in Gates, Pa., to the late Mary and Mike Standohar of Girard.

She met her husband, Michael Vezse, at the Todd Hotel in Youngstown, where they were both employed, and married on June 15, 1938. Mike and Jane later owned and operated Shott’s Restaurant on Market Street for many years. Mrs. Vezse had lived in Youngstown for most of her life before moving to Arlington in 2000.

Jane was a member of the Foster Memorial and the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of the choir and was very active in church functions for many years. She enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling and dancing to a lively polka beat.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Chuck Henderson of Arlington; son, Michael Vezse of New Orleans; brothers, Joseph and Edwin Standohar and their wives of Girard; grandchildren, Doug Henderson and his wife, Sharon, of Austin, Texas and Greg Henderson of Lantana, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Sarah, Lindsey and Katherine of Austin and Cassidy of Lantana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Vezse was preceded in death by her husband, Michael G. Vezse; sisters, Mary Costello, Francis Thomas, Agnes Zurker Doerfert and Ann Merrick; and brother, Mike Standohar.

Visiting for Jane Vezse will be held Wednesday at the Davis Funeral Home, 4996 Market St., from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and a memorial service will be at 1:30 pm. The Rev. Nicholas Cammarata, pastor of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Herman A. “Johnny” Wiesensee Jr., 73

STRUTHERS – Herman A. “Johnny” Wiesensee Jr., 73, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at the Hospice House.

Herman was born Nov. 11, 1935 in Bronx, N.Y., a son of Herman A. and Marie Korda Wiesensee Sr.

Herman worked as a Youngstown firefighter for over 18 years. In 1971, he received the Life Saving Award for rescuing three children. He was a member of the Retired Firemen’s Association Chapter 10. He was also a member of the NRA and enjoyed collecting guns and attending gun shows and military shows. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He leaves his wife, the former Beverly Cox, whom he married Sept. 15, 1972; a son, John T. Beard of Struthers; five daughters, Lisa M. Major of Struthers, Robin Gibson of Hubbard, Patty Lou Wiesensee of Liberty, Ruth “Amber” Wiesensee of Youngstown, and Anna Marie Cappitti of Boardman; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Veronica) Wiesensee of Youngstown; and a sister, Dorothy Malmfeldt of Poland.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude and Mary Lou.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks for the wonderful care given to Herman while he was at the Hospice House, especially to Carol, Marcie, and Nancy. They would also like to thank Dr. Morrison III for his special care and concern for Herman.

Gertrude M. Yuschak, 67

YOUNGSTOWN – Prayers will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by services at the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery Chapel for Gertrude M. Yuschak, 67, who died Friday evening at the Hospice House.

Gertrude was born June 22, 1941 in Youngstown, the daughter of Tony and Mary Sinkovich Tomkovich.

She had worked as a clerk at the Mahoning County Court House and later worked as a secretary and later as a cook at Omni Manor Care Center for over 10 years before retiring. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a member of the Mahoning Valley Old Car club, where she had served as secretary, and an avid bowler in numerous area leagues. She especially enjoyed with her high school friends in their longtime card club.

Her husband, John M. Yuschak, whom she married in 1963, died in 2002.

She is survived by three sons, John (Sherrie) Yuschak of Delaware, Ohio, Anthony (Nikki) Yuschak of Youngstown, and Greg Yuschak and his fiance, Carole, of Diamond and a granddaughter, Makaila Yuschak.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Caroline.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where a Paristas service will be held at 6:45 p.m.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley in Gertrude’s memory.
