Olga Dubosh

BOARDMAN – Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home for Olga Dubosh who passed away Wednesday, her 95th birthday, at the Ron Joy Nursing Home in Boardman.

Mrs. Dubosh was born Nov. 19, 1913 in Lemont, Pa., a daughter of John and Mary Vavrek Furin and moved to Campbell as a child.

She graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1931. In the 1940s, she owned and operated Furin’s Food Market in Campbell. She was a member of St. Mark Eastern Orthodox Church and also of that church’s Ladies Society.

Olga is survived by her daughter, Sonia Dubosh-Young of West Middlesex, Pa.

Besides her husband, John Dubosh, whom she married Dec. 27, 1944 and who died Dec. 24, 2003, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Limberis; her brothers, John, Steve, Michael and Walter Dubosh; a son, John Dubosh; and a grandson, Isaac Young.

Interment took place at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Donald J. Evans, 91

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Donald J. Evans, 91, who died late Friday morning at his residence.

He was born Feb. 12, 1917 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph N. and Florence (Bolton) Evans and he resided in this area all of his life.

He was a 1936 graduate of Chaney High School and he worked for Packard Electric as a laborer for 16 years until his retirement in 1982. He also co-owned and later owned Barger & Evans Service Station at Madison and 5th Ave. in Youngstown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a motor machinist during WW II. He was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime member of the West Side Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, assistant Sunday school superintendent, and he was a member of the choir and served on various other committees in the church. He was made Deacon Emeritus in 2007. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post No. 15.

“Don’s” first wife, the former Eva Vincent, whom he married in 1946, died Jan. 30, 1999.

He is survived by his second wife, the former Alice E. Davis, whom he married Sept. 17, 2000; two sons, Donald R. (Betty Jane) Evans of Sanford, Fla. and John D. Evans of Youngstown; a stepson, Daniel L. (Susan) Hageman of Youngstown; five grandchildren; a stepgrandson; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his first wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph P. Evans; a brother, William G. Evans; and a sister, Harriet E. Clupper.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Anthony M. Gaida, 42

CAMPBELL – Anthony M. Gaida, 42, died suddenly Thursday morning at his home.

Anthony was born Oct. 19, 1966 in Youngstown, a son of Gary and Mary Lou Fantone Gaida. He was raised in Youngstown and moved to Campbell in 1994.

A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Anthony worked for Astro Shapes for 15 years. Anthony’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and his dog, Ginger.

Besides his mother, Mary Lou Gaida, with whom he made his home, Anthony leaves his sister, Vicki A. (Sam Hasan) Gaida of Campbell; and six nieces and nephews, Krista and Brandon Gaida, and Amir, Leala, Nadea, and Adam Hasan.

Besides his father, Anthony was preceded in death by his brother, Gary V. Gaida.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, with Pastor Vince Hardy officiating.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred L. George, 82

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home for Mildred L. George, 82, who died Friday morning at the Hospice House.

Mildred was born Sept. 5, 1926 in Youngstown, a daughter of Clarence William and Ava Mae McClymonds Hayes, and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated from South High School and worked at H.S. Kress Company in downtown Youngstown as an office clerk and then at G.M. McKelvey’s in the cashier’s office.

Her husband, William George, whom she married Sept. 16, 1967, died April 28, 1995.

She leaves her sister, Doris Farrell of Woodstock, Ga.; nephews James Farrell of Hollywood, Fla., and William and Michael Farrell, both of Odenville, Ala.; two nieces, Sarah Joyce of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Patricia Tibbitts of Marietta, Ga.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Allen Hayes.

John C. Kelly Jr., 70

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, for John C. Kelly Jr., 70, who passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 20.

John was born June 16, 1938 in Youngstown, the son of John C. Kelly, Sr. and Mary Louise Balich.

He was a truck mechanic for McDonald-Douglas Trucking Company and served in the U.S. Army.

His wife, Marilyn Young, whom he married in 1961, passed away Sept. 21, 2003.

John will always be remembered by his daughter, Deborah Kelly; two grandsons, Jessi Hudson III and Devon Hudson; and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel L. Kelly; a brother, Ronald Kelly; and sister, Rose Marie Johnson.

Thomas Joseph Kolic, 72

GIRARD – Thomas Joseph Kolic, 72, died Friday, Nov. 21, at Hospice House in Poland.

He was born Nov. 4, 1936, in Mineral Ridge, the son of the late Stephen and Helen (Golubic) Kolic.

He graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1954, attended Youngstown State University, and came to Girard in 1955.

He worked at American Welding for 25 years and retired from Western and Southern Insurance. He was a councilman for the city of Girard for six years. He was a member of St. Rose Church for over 50 years and an usher for over 40 years. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

“Tom” wrote for The Girard News, The Vindicator, and The Tribune Chronicle for more than 30 years covering the Girard sports scene and more passionately for those who played. His “Korner” sports column was popular and directed solely to the Girard High athletes and coaches. He took individual pictures of every senior athlete of every sport, at his own cost, to give print recognition to all.

Tom gave much more of himself to the youth baseball program of Girard serving as a Little League coach for 22 years, Pony League commissioner for four years and a reliable local umpire for 20 years.

He has served as Girard High’s football and basketball statistician for more than 35 years traveling all over the valley following the Indians. He has been an officer for the Girard Athletic Boosters for more than 22 years, including terms as president and vice president. He has served as a trustee for the Girard Hall of Fame during its formidable years, quick to offer memories, facts and statistics when needed.

For all of his service to Girard, he was inducted into the Girard Hall of Fame and received the Community Service Award in 2002.

He loved sports and was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Sabino) Kolic, whom he married July 25, 1959; two sons, Thomas S. Kolic of Niles and Michael Neal Kolic of Girard; a brother, Richard Kolic of Carmel, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Thomas Anthony Kolic and Christina Marie Kolic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Helen Kolic.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose Church with prayers at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Niles Union Cemetery in Niles.

Pamela Jan Morris, 59

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Committal services will be Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel in Boardman for Pamela Jan Morris, 59, who passed away on Nov. 17, 2008, of pancreatic cancer.

She was born in Akron, to Wade and Mary K. Kristan Huber.

She was a 1967 graduate of Boardman High School and a 1971 graduate of YSU with a degree in medical technology. Pam has resided in Florida for the last 30 years. She enjoyed volunteering with many organizations, such as the soup kitchen, Stephen’s Ministry, B.E.A.M., and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church by the Sea.

She was a beloved wife to her husband of 37 years, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Morris D.C.; mother, Mary K. Huber of Boardman; two sons, Casey G. (Mardee) Morris D.C. of Florida and Paul M. Morris of Florida; five brothers, Rick E. (Kathy) Huber of Florida, Tom (Darlene) Huber of Hubbard, Jeff (Judy) Huber, Tim (Mary) Huber and Kurt Huber, all of Boardman; four sisters, Mary Beth (John) Deak, Wendy (Stanley) Studzinski, both of Boardman, Jenny (Dave) Rich of Gipsonia, Pa. and Laurie (Jerry) Hoefert of North Lima; a grandson, Wade Allcorn Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wade Huber, and twin sister, Deborah Triveri.

Anthony S. Napolitan, 70

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, for Anthony S. Napolitan, 70, who passed away Friday evening, Nov. 21.

Anthony was born May 2, 1938 in Youngstown, the son of Anthony and Pauline (Gucwa) Napolitan.

Anthony was in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Army & Navy Post 252 in Niles, V.F.W. Post 93, and the Catholic War Veterans.

Anthony worked at Loblaw’s in his earlier years. Then he went on to manage numerous Standard Oil, Sohio gas stations in the valley for 25 years, retiring in 1982. “Tony” loved fishing in Lake Erie on his boat, and had a passion for sports, having managed numerous slo-pitch softball teams through the years, playing in many out of town tournaments. Anthony was an avid Arizona Cardinals, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls fan.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, whom he married Aug. 26, 1967; his mother, Pauline of Hubbard; his son, Brian; daughter, Allison; granddaughter, Rebecca Ann; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony, who died on July 4, 1999.

Vincent A. “Vinnie” Oddo, 45

CANFIELD – Prayers will begin Monday morning at 9:45 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral, for Vincent A. “Vinnie” Oddo, 45, who died Wednesday evening.

Vinnie was born July 16, 1963 in Cleveland, the son of Biagio and Virginia Zurga Oddo, and moved to this area in 1991.

He was a graduate of Kenston High School and later earned his certification as a diesel mechanic technician. He was a construction worker and a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local No. 125.

Vinnie especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and was involved in his daughters ice skating activities through the Skating Club of Greater Youngstown. He also enjoyed hunting, driving his GTO, riding his Harley, and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Always willing to share his time and his skills as a handyman, he will be remembered by all as “Mr. Fix It.”

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, the former Renee Gaglione and two daughters, Adrianna J. Oddo and Carlie R. Oddo, all at home; his parents, Biagio and Virginia Oddo of Auburn; two sisters, Colleen (Paul) Givens of New Port Richey, Fla. and Dawn (Eric) Thut of Aurora; mother-in-law, Brenda Gaglione of Columbiana; father-in-law, Anthony Gaglione of Canfield; brother-in-law, T.J. (Rochelle) Gaglione of Columbiana; sisters-in-law, Michelle (John) DeRose of North Lima, Karen (Dave) Markulin of Canfield, and Dana (Norm) Moses of Austintown; and many nieces and nephews that remember him as a wonderful uncle.

Bernice Smith, 81

Together Again”

YOUNGSTOWN – Mrs. Bernice Smith, 81, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 20, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Gossport, Ala., a daughter of Carrie Lee and Dora Burroughs.

She was a homemaker and a member of the El Shaddai Dominion Ministries.

She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss, three sons, James (Betty Ann) Smith Jr. of Columbus, Roger (Tonya) Smith of Elyria and Kenneth (Joyce) Smith of Sharon, Pa.; eight daughters, Betty Johnson, Ernestine Farris and Lisa (Ulysses) Harris, all of Campbell, Emma (David) Parker, Addie Williams and Rev. Edie Smith, all of Youngstown, Linda (Larry) Salter of Liberty and Dr. Christine (Matt) Snipes of Mineral Ridge; a brother, James Burroughs of Youngstown; eight sisters, Carrie Snowden, Georgianna Rivers, Adadell Williams and Bessie Lee Sims, all of Mobile, Ala. Hattie Lee Picket of Youngstown, Omma Lee Clinkscale of Campbell, Irene Burroughs of Gossport and Corrine (Hilary) Wiggins of Louisville, Ky.; 87 grandchildren; and 95 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, of 63 years; her parents; a son, Mark Smith; Clinton Hopkins, whom she reared; brothers, Willie Hamilton and Bob, Fred, and Hurbert Burroughs; and grandchildren, Walter Williams and Robert Green Jr.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the El Shaddai Dominion Ministries, 1005 Liberty Road.

Phyllis Rose Stellutto, 92

AUSTINTOWN – Phyllis R. Stellutto, 92, passed away early Saturday morning, Nov. 22, 2008 at Pembrooke Place following a lengthy illness.

Phyllis was born Sept. 22, 1916 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Guy and Grace Polon.

Her husband, Dominic, whom she married June 20, 1936, died April 5, 1993.

She leaves her children, a daughter, Donna (John) Kollar of Austintown, and a son, Louis (Betty) Stellutto of Tavaras, Fla.; sisters Mary Carelly of Strongsville and Anita Vogrin of Youngstown; six grandchildren, John (Maureen) Kollar, David (Lisa) Kollar, Louis (Michelle) Stellutto, Lisa Kollar, Dominic (Amy) Stellutto, and Nicole (Todd) Evans; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dominic “Tom” Polon of Liberty, Michael “Bob” Polon of Hubbard; and a sister, Jean Scavnicky of Girard.

Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker, cook, and baker and loved gardening.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Inn at Christine Valley for the loving care and compassion given to Phyllis and her family.

Friends and family may meet at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Rose Church in Girard for a Mass of Christian Burial.

Antoinette Swierz, 90

NORTH LIMA – Antoinette Swierz, 90, formerly of Poland, passed away late Friday evening, Nov. 21, 2008, at Assumption Village Nursing Home.

Antoinette, affectionately known by friends as “Toots,” was born Oct. 5, 1918 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Anthony and Henrietta Ksiazek Lamparty, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a homemaker and worked for General Fireproofing from the late 1940s until 1951.

Antoinette was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, and the senior citizens group of the church. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 1222.

Mrs. Swierz’s husband, Stanley Swierz, whom she married Aug. 9, 1949, passed away Feb. 7, 1990.

Antoinette leaves a son, Stanley D. Swierz of Columbus; a daughter, Jacqueline (Frank) Mazzocca of Poland, Ohio; a granddaughter, Daniella; and a brother, Chester Lamparty of Jackson, Miss.

Antoinette will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her husband, Antoinette was preceded in death by four brothers, Myron, Fred, Henry, and Theodore Lamparty; and three sisters, Helen Anzevino DiLulio, Nellie Kadlubowski, and Stephanie Butch.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 , at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Irene H. Tomory, 88

CAMPBELL – Services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen of Hungary Church for Irene H. Tomory, 88, who passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Irene was born Dec. 4, 1919 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Mary Ference Polya.

She was a food service supervisor for Heritage Manor for 19 years, retiring in 1983.

Irene married Julius Tomory Feb. 18, 1939. He passed away in January 1990.

She was a member of St. Stephen of Hungary Church, its Altar & Rosary Society, Silver & Gold Seniors, Campbell Hungarian Ladies Club and Wm. Penn Branch 28.

Irene is survived by three sons, James (Susan) of Hubbard, Richard (Irene) of Campbell and Ray (Carolynn) of Palmer, Alaska; seven grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Hladun of Poland.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, John and George Polya.

Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Coitsville.


John P. Toth, 73

BURGHILL – John P. Toth, 73, died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mr. Toth was born in Girard on Feb. 18, 1935, a son of William G. and Elizabeth Toth.

John served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves during the Korean War. He worked for Valley Mould in Hubbard, for over 28 years before his retirement as superintendent of finishing in 1985. During his life he raised cattle and owned racing horses and show horses, which he also enjoyed watching on television. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting as well as fishing especially later in life.

John is survived by his three sons, John “Tom” (Linda) Toth of Hubbard, Robert Toth of Jacksonville, N.C., and Jim (Kim) Toth of Liberty Township; two brothers, William Toth of Jacksonville, Fla. and Ret. Maj. Francis (Frances) Toth of Jacksonville; four sisters, Elizabeth (George) Szugye of LaBelle, Fla., Catherine Kaercher of Pittsburgh, Roseann (Burt) Wilkinson of Garretsville and Margaret Myers of Austintown; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Kinsley, and Rachel Toth; three stepgrandchildren, Donald Humpherys, Tony Nattoli, and Joe Nattoli; and four great-grandchildren. His companion, Kathy Zicolla, of Hartford also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield, from noon to 1 p.m., where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna Township.

Katherine B. Wanat, 90

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman, for Katherine B. Wanat, 90, who died Nov. 19, at Woodlands at Austinwoods in Austintown.

Mrs. Wanat was born in Fulton, N.Y. on Feb. 25, 1918, a daughter of Stefan and Rose Ilko Banko and moved to Youngstown as a small child.

Katherine was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was an assembly worker at General Electric for 33 years, retiring in 1980.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Marilyn) of McDonald; her sister, Jaroslawa Kosc of Poland, Europe; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Charles Wanat, whom she married in 1947 and who died May 2, 1997, Katherine was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Joseph and Nicholas Banko.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., two hours prior to the services.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.



Virginia M. Williams, 79

AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church for Virginia M. Williams, 79, who passed away Saturday morning at Hospice House.

Virginia was born April 9, 1929 in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Jean M. Reed Dusko.

Virginia was a 1947 graduate of South High School and a top sales person for Caroline Emmons Jewelry.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and their choir. When her sons were younger, she was a Sunday school teacher. She was an outstanding artist, making drawings and working with ceramics.

Virginia had a love for animals, especially tigers and cats. Her greatest love was for her family and spending time with her two grandsons. She will be deeply missed.

Her husband, Paul J. Williams, whom she married Oct. 3, 1953, passed away Sept. 30, 2004.

Virginia leaves her two sons, Dave (Kathy) Williams of Sacramento, Calif., and Mark (Debra) Williams of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandsons, Jacob and Alex Williams; and a sister, Patricia Johnson of Boardman.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
