William L. “Louis” Brancho, 85

AUSTINTOWN – There will be services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown for William L. “Louis” Brancho, who was born June 1, 1923.

Louis was the son of John and Anna Brancho.

He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and he received the Purple Heart for his courage on Iwo Jima.

Louis retired from General Motors and he was among the first employees at Lordstown working at the van plant. He was a member of St. Brendan Church.

Louis was an avid Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State and Youngstown State fan, and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Buddy.

Besides his wife of 60 years, Marjorie J. “Midge” Brancho, he leaves fond memories with his children, William L. Brancho and Margaret of Boardman, Gary Brancho and Shalata of Akron, and Kymberly Brancho of Youngstown; stepchildren, Thomas (Candance) Shugart of Ellsworth, Marjorie Barnett of Austintown, Nancy Shugart of Youngstown, Bill Shugart and Vera of Canfield; Jerry Shugart of Campbell; Judy Shugart of Struthers; his caregiver and granddaughter, Azzerde Gasior; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Rosemarie McCulley.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Guileful; a brother, Andy Brancho; a sister, Matilda Smith; grandsons, Greg Greathouse and Jerry Shugart; and a great-grandson, Spencer Kollar.

Jeffrey B. Cole, 44

CO.

COLUMBUS – Services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Jeffrey B. Cole, 44, formerly of Youngstown, who departed this life Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Mr. Cole was born Jan. 4, 1964 in Youngstown, a son of Judge and Bertha Fuller Cole.

He was a 1982 graduate of The Rayen School. He was employed as a senior product handling champion with Penske/Kenko Trucking Company. While in Youngstown he attended the Christian Revival Discipleship Center and in Columbus, he was a member of New Birth Ministry. He enjoyed sports, especially football, traveling, mentoring children, family and friends. Jeffrey was an extremely hard worker and enjoyed his jobs.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers, Robert E. (Kathy) Cole of Bedford Heights, and Calvin (Daniella) Cole of Warren; aunts, Geraldine Hawkins of Boston, Mass., Aggie Johnson, of Youngstown, Janice Cole of Indianapolis, Clair Miller of Iowa, Lillie Anderson of Buffalo, N.Y., and Loraine Cole of Campbell; an uncle, Bennie Cole of Minnesota; nieces and nephews, Keyla, Calvin Jr., Charles Jr., Robert Jr., Trina, LaTasha, William, Cameron, Matthew, T-Ayja, Jaquada, Laquada and Essence, who were a significant part of his life; his long-time friend, Karen Perkins and her children, whom he helped to rear, Jamilah (Jeremy) Sailee, Akilah (Jamar) Britton and Charles (Melinda) Perkins; a sister-in-law, Kim Simmons of Youngstown; a godson, Everett Lucas Jackson; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Cole; a sister, Pamela; his grandmother, Eleanor Cole, an aunt Juliet Hill; and uncles, Clarence and George Billingsly.

Ruth Douglas, 78

PORTLAND, TENN. – Ruth Douglas, 78, passed away Nov. 19, 2008.

Ruth was born in Youngstown. She was a beloved wife and mother, and a member of the McKendree United Memorial Church. She deeply loved her family, friends, and church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jim Douglas.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Douglas of Portland; daughter, Sherry (Larry) Groves of Portland; daughter in law, Janet Douglas of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Michael Eisenbraun, Tracy Sanders, Ryan Groves, Amanda Douglas and Jamie Douglas; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at the McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Alex Jackson and Rev. Gordon Meadors officiating.

Interment will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home in Portland and 10 a.m. until time of funeral Saturday at the church.

Frank Esasky Sr., 81

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, PA. – Frank Esasky Sr., 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at the Allegheny Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights.

He was born in Irwin, Pa. on Feb. 10, 1927 to the late Nicholas and Anna Hegedus Esasky and had been a life resident of our local area.

He retired from the maintenance department of Penn State University in New Kensington, Pa., after 10 years of employment. He had previously worked in the pickling department of the former G.E. and John and Laughlin Conduit Plant in New Kensington for 33 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Frank was a member of the Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington. He also enjoyed bowling and hunting.

Survivors include, two sons, Frank Esasky Jr. of Turtle Creek, Pa. and Gary D. (Loretta) Esasky of Poland; two granddaughters, Kristen (Oliver) Furby and Kimberly Esasky; two brothers, Nicholas (Flo) Esasky of Marietta, Ga. and Charles (Beverly) Esasky of Irwin, Pa. and three sisters, Julie (Albert) Zolack, Margaret Shinsky and Helen Kachmor, all of Irwin.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Yannuzzo Esasky; four brothers, John, George, Michael and Alex Esasky; and a sister, Anne Stoner.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rusiewicz of Lower Burrell Funeral Home, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street in Lower Burrell, Pa., where prayers of transfer will be said on Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a Christian funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington.

Burial will follow at the Greenwood Mausoleum in Lower Burrell.

Joseph Glen Favors, 82

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Joseph Glen Favors, 82, who departed this life Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Favors was born Jan. 3, 1926 in Wetumpka, Ala., a son of Archie and Amanda Davis Favors.

He had been employed as a truck driver with Rota Trucking for over 40 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed being with family and friends.

His wife, the former, Lillie Belle Kellie, whom he married June 13, 1950, passed away March 29, 2003.

He leaves to cherish his beloved memory seven sons, Willie Joe and Jimmie L. both of Akron, Larry “Butch” Smith-Favors, Kenneth, Dennis, Jerry and Edward “Pete,” all of Youngstown; his mother-in-law, Lucille Kellie; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and friends.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Louise Griffin and Vanessa Favors; a son, Randall Favors; a sister, Rosetta Favors; and seven brothers, Roscoe, Emmett, Matthew, L.M., Lawyer, Oscar and David.

Zellah Marjorie Hartman, 86

AUSTINTOWN – Services will be at 7 p.m. today for Zellah Marjorie Hartman, 86, who passed away Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Marjorie was born July 4, 1922 in Bloomingdale, the daughter of James R. and Margaret Susan (Dury) Hill.

She was an E.K.G. technician for Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital from 1963 to 1965 and then was a self-employed dog groomer for several years. Marjorie was a member of the Austintown Community Church.

Her husband, Ensign W. Hartman, whom she married July 18, 1948, passed away Jan. 11, 1963.

Marjorie leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Beatty and Jean Ramey.

John S. Kanos, 80

LISBON — A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Cyril & Methodius Church in Youngstown, for John S. Kanos, 80, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, at Salem Community Hospital.

Mr. Kanos was born on Dec. 14, 1927 in Youngstown, a son of Madej and Julia Garlic Kanos and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

He was a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church and a member of Teamsters Local 377. He was employed as a warehouseman for 32 years, retiring in 1985.

John is survived by three sons, Joseph (Brenda) Kanos of Youngstown, John (Deborah) Kanos of Lisbon, and Michael Kanos of Struthers; four daughters, Barbara (Randall) Simon of Canfield and Kathleen Crane, Janet Cramer and Christine Kanos, all of Struthers; 18 grandchildren; and by two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Pauline Berndt, whom he married on Sept. 9, 1954 and who died on July 6, 1988; brother, Michael Kanos and his sister, Mary Ann Kanos.

Gordon Paul Koehler I., 70

LEETONIA – Gordon Paul Koehler I., 70, passed away at 5:06 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Koehler was born on Jan. 22, 1938 in Boardman, the son of Charles J. and Martha (Best) Koehler.

Gordon was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Wilson High School Class of 1956. Gordon also attended Repperts School of Auctioneering in 1972.

Mr. Koehler lost his arm due to cancer at age 19, however he never felt that he was handicapped and there was very little that he could not do.

Gordon retired from Youngstown Sheet & Tube after 25 years, in 1981. Gordon also owned and operated Germantown Gardens of Columbiana, The Flower Depot in Leetonia and operated concessions for many years at local fairs.

Mr. Koehler worked with Jim Baer for 25 years as an auctioneer and master appraiser, he also sold real estate and worked at Rogers Auction. Gordon enjoyed growing plants and flowers and in earlier years was a softball and little league coach.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Irene (Rodrick) Koehler, whom he married on April 9, 1988. Other survivors include two children, Terry Lynn (Tom) Otto of Gavers and Gordon (Tammy) Koehler II of Leetonia; one sister, Barbara (Andrew) Palusak of Columbiana; three grandchildren, Gordon Paul III, Jennifer and James Koehler; two stepdaughters, Linda Bell of Foley, Ala. and Lori Guy of Columbiana; two stepsons, David (Patsy) Rodrick of Houston and Thomas (Cindy) Rodrick of Leetonia; 15 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, with Jeff Schoch officiating.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Columbiana Cemetery.

Anna Lee Lett, 75

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Union Baptist Church for Anna Lee Lett, 75, who departed this life Saturday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. Lett was born Nov. 8, 1933 in Garland, Ala., a daughter of Jesse and Maudie Presley Stinson.

She was a teachers aide in the Youngstown School System and volunteer grandparents program of the Youngstown School System. She was a member of the church, its choir and Janie Wright Missions.

Her husband, John Lett died July 19, 1980.

She leaves her children, John Lett Jr. of Los Angeles, Anna Marie (Dwayane) Harris of Lancaster, Calif., Marcellus (Vonda) Lett and Mark Lett, both of Youngstown; two brothers, Burlie Stinson and Willie (Pauline) Stinson, both of Youngstown; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A grandson, Tederelle Lett preceded her in death.

Melba Masco, 88

YOUNGSTOWN – Private services were held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, for Melba Masco, 88, who passed away Friday morning, Nov. 14, 2008, with her family by her side at Campus Health Care Center.

She was born Dec. 28, 1919 in Washington, Pa., the daughter of William McKinney and Lucille Hunnell and moved to the Youngstown area in 1939.

She was a retired secretary from the Republic Steel Company.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Merle Lovell and a daughter, Fayme (Raymond) Felleti, both of Youngstown; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laverne Krupp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Masco, and two sisters, Twila Scott and Opal Hootman.

Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

Billy O’Shea McGeorge, 32

YOUNGSTOWN –There will be services at 11 a.m. Friday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc., for Billy O’Shea McGeorge, 32, who departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008.

Mr. McGeorge was born July 6, 1976 in Youngstown, a son of Michael O’Shea McGeorge and LaRita Yvonne Johnson.

He was a self-employed artist.

Besides his mother of Youngstown and his father of Rock Island, Iowa, he leaves a son, Billy O’Shea McGeorge, siblings, David A. (Michelle) Johnson, Azzia L. Johnson, Hannibal Thomas, William (Tina) Johnson, Taneysha Johnson and Nathan O’Shea Jones, all of Youngstown; and a host of aunts and uncles.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

Viewing will be today from noon to 4 p.m.

Pamela Jan Morris, 59

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Committal services will be Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel in Boardman for Pamela Jan Morris, 59, who passed away on Nov. 17, 2008, of pancreatic cancer.

She was born in Akron, to Wade and Mary K. Kristan Huber.

She was a 1967 graduate of Boardman High School and a 1971 graduate of YSU with a degree in medical technology. Pam has resided in Florida for the last 30 years. She enjoyed volunteering with many organizations, such as the soup kitchen, Stephen’s Ministry, B.E.A.M., and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church by the Sea.

She was a beloved wife to her husband of 37 years, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Morris D.C.; mother, Mary K. Huber of Boardman; two sons, Casey G. (Mardee) Morris D.C. of Florida and Paul M. Morris of Florida; five brothers, Rick E. (Kathy) Huber of Florida, Tom (Darlene) Huber of Hubbard, Jeff (Judy) Huber, Tim (Mary) Huber and Kurt Huber, all of Boardman; four sisters, Mary Beth (John) Deak, Wendy (Stanley) Studzinski, both of Boardman, Jenny (Dave) Rich of Gipsonia, Pa. and Laurie (Jerry) Hoefert of North Lima; a grandson, Wade Allcorn Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wade Huber, and twin sister, Deborah Triveri.

Mabel Partington, 96

BETHEL PARK, PA. – Mabel Partington, 96, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.

She was the wife of the late Robert Partington; beloved mother of Janet (Frank) Donadee of Youngstown; the late James Partington; mother-in-law of Amy Partington; sister of Dorothy of Montana, Calif.; Raymond Takaht of Liberty Boro; and the late Frances Bazzone; also nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mabel was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the David J. Henney Funeral Home, 6364 Library Road (Route 88) in Library, Pa., where funeral service will be Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.

NORTH OLMSTED – Gerald C. “Crash” Potchatek, 67, formerly of Lakewood, beloved husband for 42 years of Mary (McCann); loving father of Michael L. (deceased), Stephen, Kenneth (Nicole) and Lori (Jesse) Mobley; cherished brother of Donald (Connie), James (Dorothy), Walter (Lynn), Marilyn (William, deceased) Nagel, Shirley (Michael) Fallon and Jane (James) Gotwald; uncle to many nieces and nephews; and dear son of Victor and Stephanie (Tochek) Potchatek (both deceased), entered into rest Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008.

He was the owner of the HiLo Tech Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated in 1959 from Benedictine High School.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Joseph A. Misencik Funeral Home, 12500 Madison Ave. in Lakewood, where closing prayers will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church in Lakewood. Mary M. (Uhrin) Schneider, 87

ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico – Loving mother, Mary M. (Uhrin) Schneider, 87, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, departed this life to join “our Heavenly Father” on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2008.

Mary was born June 20, 1921 in Campbell, Ohio and was preceded in death by her husband, Winston A. Schneider; parents, Stephan and Mary Uhrin of Campbell; brothers, Steven, Joseph and John Uhrin; and sisters, Margaret O’Keefe and Joanne Rogers.

She is survived by sons, Edward and his wife Dixie Schneider of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; James and his wife Bonnie of Alamogordo, New Mexico; and Bryan Schneider of Las Cruces, New Mexico; grandchildren include, Christopher Schneider, Ryan Schneider, Seth Schneider, Serena Worthington, Charles Schneider, Tarl Schneider and Erik Kessinger; great-grandchildren, Jack Schneider, Katherine Schneider and Andrew Kessinger; sister, Agnes (Uhrin) Krut of Campbell also survives Mary, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews from Ohio, Colorado, Texas, California and New Mexico.

Mary is a veteran of the U.S. Army W.A.C. and served in New York and Germany, during and after WWII.

Mary was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She will be missed by the many friends and loving relatives whose lives she touched during her 87 years.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., today, Nov. 20, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alamogordo, New Mexico by Father Bruce Hausfel, O.F.M. celebrant.

Locally, the family entrusted The Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.

Veronica M. Soroka, 79

BOARDMAN – Private funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, for Veronica Margaret Soroka, 79, who passed away peacefully late Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2008, at her home with her family by her side.

Veronica was born Nov. 24, 1928 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Kicos) Dzurnak, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1946 graduate of Wilson High School, a homemaker, and worked for 17 years for the Handleman Company, prior to retiring in 1992. She dedicated the majority of her life to lovingly raising and caring for her family.

Mrs. Soroka was a member of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Veronica will be sadly missed by her entire family, including her husband, Mike Soroka, whom she married on May 10, 1952; her three children, Maxine Patrone of Boardman, Michael (Danelle) Soroka of Austintown and Dean (Natasha) Soroka of Boardman; her two grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Patrone; and her two sisters, Mary Bachani of Youngstown and Agnes Deters of Niles.

A sister, Helen Couch and a brother, John Dzurnak are deceased.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Valley for all of their care and kindness.


Martin J. Weimer, 67

YOUNGSTOWN – Martin J. Weimer, 67, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mr. Weimer was born Nov. 15, 1941 in Youngstown, a son of David and Dora White Weimer, and was a lifelong area resident.

A 1960 graduate of North High School, Mr. Weimer worked as an installation and repairman for Ameritech for 33 years, retiring in 1999.

Mr. Weimer was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne Division.

He loved bowling, working in his yard, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his two grandchildren, Kevin and Amber.

Mr. Weimer is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Patricia A. Lumpp; son, Martin J. (Natalie) Weimer Jr. of Lowellville; daughter, Renee (James) Weeden of Lowellville; two grandchildren, Kevin Weimer and Amber Weeden; four brothers, David (Lynn) Weimer of Liberty, Thomas (Ann) Weimer of Youngstown, Michael (Jan) Weimer of Boardman and Ronald (Renee) Weimer of New Middletown; and one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Lumpp of Poland.

Besides his parents, Mr. Weimer was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Private memorial services were held Wednesday at the Holy Family Church in Poland.

YOUNGSTOWN – Violet “Vye” M. Willard, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008.

Vye was born May 24, 1927, a daughter of the late William Henry and Alice James.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Always a kind, generous and compassionate woman, she loved life and was devoted to her family and friends. Vye loved to be together with her large family, laughing, joking and telling stories. She was the example of goodness, loyalty, integrity and compassion to all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service and celebration of her life was held in a private ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008.

“She has brought light and joy to each of our lives and will be missed forever on this earth.”

She moved to Youngstown from Salem in 1957. She was a homemaker and worked at Thom’s Trenching Service for 10 years.

She married the late Leonard Quinn and they had three children together. She was preceded in death by Leonard in 1949.

She married George T. Willard in 1952 and together they had two children.

She is survived by her husband, George; and four sons, Leonard Quinn (Nancy) of Manasess, Va., Larry Quinn (Patty, deceased) of Youngstown, Thom Willard (Lesa) of Dothan, Ala. and Dennis Willard (Tina) of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Quinn Stanar (Mike) and a brother, Wilbur (Bud) James.

She is also the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, William Quinn, Carrie Scahill, Lisa Stanar Pertee, David Quinn, Terry Lucas, Michael Quinn, Nicole Quinn Roberts, George T. Willard II, Andrew Willard, Nicholas Willard, Alex Willard and Jessica Willard; 14 great-grandchildren, Ryan Scahill, Shawn Scahill, Shelby Lucas, Anthony Lucas, Matthew Quinn, Megan Quinn, Cameron Quinn, Symone Roberts, Xavier Quinn, Caleb Quinn, Reagan Roberts, Ireland Quinn, Presley Roberts and Nicholas Pertee; and two great-great-grandchildren, Liam and Leah Scahill.

The Willard family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.
