Andrew F. Birtalan, 59
CANFIELD Andrew F. Birtalan passed away Saturday afternoon at the Hospice House.
Andrew was born December 8, 1948 in Dublin, Ga., a son of the late Andy and Maggie (Cooper) Birtalan.
He retired after 30 years at General Motors in Lordstown, and had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by two sons, Brian (Tanya Eckard) Birtalan of Campbell and Frank (Lori Elliott) Birtalan of Canton; five grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Naveena, Frank Jr., and Jared; and a dear friend, Rexine Novicky.
Besides his parents, Andrew is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Stack.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hospice House for their help and compassion during Andrews illness.

Lola M. Gross, 87
Together Again
LOWELLVILLE Lola M. Gross, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at her daughters residence.
Mrs. Gross was born Saturday, Dec. 18, 1920 in Lowellville, a daughter of James and Michelina DiCicco Bisconti, and was a lifelong area resident.
She worked as a custodian for the Lowellville Schools for 30 years, she was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Gross loved to cook and bake, and especially loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph Bip Gross, Sr., whom she married Feb. 12, 1938, died March 24, 2008.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Pat) Angelilli of Poland and Susan (Tom) Purucker of Ft. Mills, S.C.; one son, Joseph (Barbara) Gross Jr. of York, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Victoria (Rick) Albright, John (Lisa) Angelilli, Ronald (Caroline) Angelilli, Michael (Jennifer) Angelilli, Brian Angelilli, Joseph (Heather) Gross III, James (Rita) Gross, Michaelyn Purucker, Tom (Marie) Purucker and Richard (Leigh) Purucker; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Katie Sheldone of Lowellville; and two brothers, Nick (Violet) Bisconti of Lowellville, and James Bisconti Jr of Lowellville.
Besides her parents, and husband of 70 years, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest and Carl Ramunno and Tony Bisconti.
The Gross family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to Forum Health Hospice for their loving care given to Mrs. Gross.
Funeral services will be held at the Holy Rosary Church, Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. G. David Weikart officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Lowellville Chapel, where prayer services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Irene S. Lyras, 79
CAMPBELL Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church for Irene S. Lyras, 79, who passed away peacefully Saturday at her home.
Irene was born May 13, 1929 in Youngstown, the daughter of Stamati and Sylvia Ellinos Kotis and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1948 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. She was a member of the church and its Ladies Philoptochos Society and in the late 1940s, she was the choir director at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
Her husband, Sozon E. Lyras, whom she married on June 26, 1949, passed away May 4, 2001.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Dr. Louis S. Lyras of Poland; a daughter, Sylvia (Phillip) Passes of Boardman; three sisters, Betty (Charles) Koulianos of Campbell, Mary Wasko of Youngstown and Virginia (John) Halkitis of Campbell; one brother, John (Pearl) Kotis of Struthers; grandchildren, Sozon, George, Renee (Derek) and Sarah; sisters-in-law, Betty Lyras of Campbell and Koula Lyras of Greece; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wasko Funeral Home where there will be a Trisagion at 7 p.m., and a half hour before the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Archangel Michael Building Fund in Irenes name.
Marion A. ODonnell, 85
MCDONALD Marion A. ODonnell, 85, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Marion was born May 30, 1923, a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Bryson Halliday, in Sewickley, Pa.
She was a homemaker had worked for Schwebel Bakery and Grants in downtown Youngstown. A member of Woodland Park United Methodist Church in McDonald, she was a former Sunday School teacher and Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Marion enjoyed baking and sewing and was an avid bowler for many years.
She is survived by her son, Daniel ODonnell of McDonald; daughter, Jean May of Liberty Township; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. ODonnell, whom she married March 12, 1948 and who died Sept. 25, 1997; a son, John J. Martin; and sisters, Mary Tanner, Helen Wallis and Jean Halliday.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
Anthony J. Tony Quahliero Sr., 79
HERMITAGE, PA. Anthony J. Tony Quahliero Sr., 79, of 555 Dutch Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the Haven Nursing Home in New Castle, Pa..
Tony was born March 14, 1929 in New Castle to the late Marion and Rose Maccharelli Quahliero Sr.
He was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1947. While serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, based in Panama, he played in the Marine Corps Band and the All-Navy Baseball Team.
After being discharged, he received a letter of recommendation for a tryout with the New York Yankees in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He later played baseball and softball in many area leagues, playing for the Croton AC in the City League, Universal Rundle, Crescent Café and Liberty ACs. He also bowled for the Wabash Bears. For many years, he played drums with many local bands. He retired from Elliott Brothers Steel, where he worked as a shipper.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche L. DiCola Quahliero; three sons, Vern Leonard of Tampa, Fla., Anthony J. (Melanie) Quahliero Jr. of Struthers and Perry L. (Tina) Quahliero of New Castle; three brothers, Marion Quahliero Jr., Louis (Joanne) Quahliero and John (Bonita) Quahliero, all of New Castle; grandchildren, Anthony Eric (Amanda) Leonard, Christopher Dane Leonard, and Ryan, AJ, Jacqueline and Angelina Quahliero; five stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Louis; and an infant sister, Catherine.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. in New Castle, Pa.
Services, officiated by Rev. Fr. Kevin Beaton of St John the Baptist Maronite Church, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel.
Interment will be at Parkside Cemetery.

Daniel Scutillo, 90
BROOKFIELD Daniel Scutillo, 90, formerly of Hubbard, died Friday evening at Cortland Health Care Center.
He was born Dec. 25, 1917 in Springhill Township, Pa., a son of Nick and Mary Isola Scutillo and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Scutillo worked for Sharon Steel Corp. for 35 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the VFW in Farrell, Pa., and enjoyed playing cards, building and construction work, and spending time with his family.
A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in France, the EAME Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Ribbon.
His wife, the former Mildred Louise Cunningham, whom he married June 14, 1941, died May 1, 1995.
He leaves a son, Nicholas R. (Dee) Scutillo of Hubbard; a daughter, Sandra L. (William) Dudas of Masury; two brothers, Mike Scutillo of Masury and Ralph Scutillo of Hobe Sound, Fla.; three sisters, Philomenia Harner of Warren, Mickie Deichler of Gilbert, Ariz. and Grace Rohrbach of Allentown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Scutillo; a grandson, Scott Scutillo; a brother, Tony Scutillo; and two sisters, Josephine Brake and Louise Bohyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Henry H.P. Soccorsy, 83
CANFIELD Henry P. Soccorsy, 83, passed away early Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 2008, at his home with his family at his side.
Henry, popularly known as H.P., was born Jan. 19, 1925 in Youngstown, a son of the late William and Mary Dominic Soccorsy, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Soccorsy served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was the owner/operator of 4-Wheels Auto Sales in Boardman for many years until his recent retirement.
He enjoyed playing music, food, socializing, and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Soccorsy leaves his beloved wife, Nancy Miller Soccorsy, with whom he shared his life for more than 25 years; four stepchildren, John Miller of Columbus, Lynn (Scott) Neilsen of North Lima, Jeff (Tina) Miller of Poland, Ohio, and Dan (Melissa) Miller of Poland, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, who affectionately called him Ba; a brother, C. Raymond (Alice) Soccorsy of Canfield; a sister-in-law, Antoinette Soccorsy of Boardman; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
H.P. will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Amato Soccorsy; a sister, Marie Byrd; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Soccorsy.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Lena B Thomas, 92
TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. Mrs. Lena B Thomas, formerly of McDonald and Niles, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at her home in Traverse City, just days after celebrating her 92nd birthday.
Mrs. Thomas was born Nov. 9, 1916 in Rochester Mills, Pa., a daughter of Wilson and Effie (Frederick) Sutter. She lived most of her life in Trumbull County, moving to Michigan four years ago.
Her husband of more than 60 years, William O. Thomas, Sr., died June 18, 1997. After their marriage on Oct. 10, 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas lived on the Thomas family farm in McDonald. Mrs. Thomas continued to manage the farm after her husbands death, until selling it a few years before when she moved to Michigan to live near her family.
Mrs. Thomas forever will be loved and missed by her son, William, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Traverse City; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Thomas-Weaver, and her husband, Anthony, of Macomb, Mich.; her step-granddaughter, Kelly Krason, and her husband, Stephen of Warren, Mich.; her beloved great-grandchildren, Lucian Weaver, Zoe Weaver and Aiden Weaver, all of Macomb, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews throughout the Trumbull County area.
Her grandson, Aaron David Thomas, died Aug. 11, 2008, after a 10-year struggle with a malignant brain tumor.
Also preceding Mrs. Thomas in death were two sisters, Mrs. Jean Llewellyn of Niles and Mrs. Mary Bower of Mecca; and two brothers, Fred Sutter of Niles and William Sutter of Bryan, Ohio.
Mrs. Thomas was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Niles. She attended Niles public schools until a tragic Fourth of July accident severely damaged one of her eyes when she was 17 years old. The injury, however, didnt keep Mrs. Thomas from being active in her church and volunteering in school and community-related activities in addition to assisting her husband on the farm. She enjoyed being with her loving family, studying the Bible and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Pastor Lynn Nichols will officiate and burial will be in Kerr Cemetery.
