John Franklin Baumiller, 85
HARTFORD John Franklin Baumiller, 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Concord Care Center of Hartford.
He was born June 16, 1923 in Nutwood, the son of Earl A. and Mary Lenore Bye Baumiller.
Mr. Baumiller retired in 1984 from Delphi-Packard, where he had worked 20 years in the labor gang. He had previously worked for the Halsey-Taylor Corporation. He also operated Baumiller Fruit Farm in Hartford.
He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. He served on the U.S.S. Boise in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Hartford United Methodist Church, the Hartford VFW 3535 and the Hartford Optimist Club.
He loved to go dancing, mow his yard, play golf and basketball, and pole vault, which he was very accomplished at in high school.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Hazel Kagy Stevens, in 2004 and his second wife, Catherine Perry Baumiller in 2000.
He is survived by three daughters, Janeece (Francis) Phelps of Naples, Fla., Bonnie (Michael) Joyner of Miramar Lakes, Fla. and Lori (Walter) Pitney of Ft. Jennings; one son, John (Kelly) Baumiller of Hartford; one stepson, Wayne (Gloria) Perry of Liberty; six grandchildren, Hunter and Taylor Baumiller, Elizabeth and Nathan Pitney, and Ashley and Ryan Joyner; and one stepgrandson, Mark Perry.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
A time of gathering will be held Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home in Hartford from 10 to 11:30 a.m., when a memorial service will be held.
Carolyn L. Booker
CLEVELAND Carolyn L. Booker, formerly of Campbell, passed away Nov. 10, 2008.
She leaves her husband, Joseph W.; children, Terry, Brian (Cheryl) and Lori; six grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, 8712 Quincy Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106, where the Wake will be at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral service at 10 a.m.

Ann-Marie Cheney, 82
AUSTINTOWN A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at St. Joseph Church in Austintown for Ann-Marie Cheney, 82, who died Wednesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a brief illness.
Ann-Marie was born July 30, 1926 in Brookline, Pa., to the late Herbert and Delia (Clarke) Deemer.
She attended Resurrection School and later worked at Jonassons Department Store in Pittsburgh. She moved to Austintown 25 years ago.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, where she belonged to the Quilting Club and Ladies Society.
Ann-Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Cheney, who died Nov. 25, 1974. They had married Dec. 14, 1963.
She was also preceded by a sister, Catherine Roszhart; her brother, Herbert Deemer; and niece, Jeannette Moore.
Ann Marie is survived by her nephew, Thomas (Terry) Roszhart of Los Angeles; her cousins, Mary Louise Kroll of Canfield and Virginia Warming of Portland, Maine; and her caregiver, Eileen Haught of Canfield. She also leaves behind two great-nephews, Joseph Roszhart and Brandon Moore.
Friends may call one half hour prior to Mass at the church from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
Burial service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
A special appreciation is given to Victoria House in Austintown, where she resided the past few years.

Timothy L. Franko, 54
NILES Timothy L. Franko, 54, formerly of Girard, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at the Shepherd of the Valley.
Tim was born March 7, 1954 to the late Joseph W. and Edith O. Valentich Franko in Warren.
He graduated from Liberty High School in 1972, and attended YSU Business Administration, graduating in 1976. He worked 10 years as an insurance agent for Nationwide.
He is survived by his son, Halden Joseph Frank; sister, Janice (Larry) Parsons of Canfield; and a nephew, Chris Parsons.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph.
Services will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of service.

Mildred J. Hogan, 86
AUSTINTOWN Mildred J. Hogan, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1921 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Gustave and Mary (Michels) DuPuy.
She had been employed in the cosmetics department at Strouss Department Store. Previously, during WWII she worked at Camp Reynolds in Pennsylvania. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Austintown. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and loved her cats.
She married Richard W. Hogan in 1945, he passed away in 1985.
She is survived by her son, Dennis P. Hogan of Mercer, Pa. and her niece, Joan Sewickley-DiBernardi of Lake Milton.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Hogan, and a brother, William G. DuPuy.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the McClurkin Funeral Home, 222 South State St. in Girard.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be at the Canfield Cemetery in Canfield
Lillian (Marzano) Jacobson, 88
YOUNGSTOWN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Youngstown for Lillian (Marzano) Jacobson, 88, who passed away Monday, Nov. 10.
Lillian was born Aug. 25, 1920 in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (White) Marzano.
She was a 1940 graduate of East High School and was employed at General Fire Proofing and Ohio Chair Company. Lillian was a member of the church.
Her husband, David Jacobson, whom she married in 1952, passed away in 1983.
She will always be remembered by her many nieces and nephews; a step son, Jerome Jacobson of Georgia; and a step daughter, Lois Swartz of Florida.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Jerry D. Marzano, Frank P. Marzano, and Samuel Donofrio.

Sam J. Red Martino, 78
HUBBARD Sam J. Red Martino, 78, died Wednesday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 20, 1930 in Youngstown, a son of Dominic and Beatrice Zarlingo Martino and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Martino was a supervisor for Tri County Distributors, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, the Hubbard Conservation Club and served with the U.S. Marines. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved to garden.
He leaves his wife, the former Odette Kanaan, whom he married June 1, 1957; a son, Michael (Tiffany) Martino of Boardman; two daughters, Dr. Michele Martino of New Hampshire and Carrie Clayton of Hubbard; a brother, Tony Martino of Boardman; and four grandchildren, Ashley and David Clayton, and Nicolette and Cassie Martino.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Martino.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Kelly-Robb Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church.

Marie L. Modena, 87
CANFIELD Services will begin at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church for Marie L. Modena, 87, who passed into internal rest on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at 12:45 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Marie was born Dec. 4, 1920 in Niles, the daughter of the late Vincent and Angelina Rivella Antonucci. She resided in the Youngstown area for most of her life and was a 1938 graduate of East High School.
Besides being a homemaker, Marie was head cashier with Electrolux Corporation during WWII. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a former vice president of Garden Estates Garden Club and a former treasurer of St. Charles Garden Club. She was a member of Sons of Italy No. 858 Auxiliary, Royal Seniors and St. Anthony Seniors. Marie also served as assistant Girl Scout Leader of Troop 91.
Along with her husband, Marie was a member of the Idora Ballroom Dance Association. The couple were performers and dancers with the Golden Age Follies Salute to World War II. They also traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and the United States.
Marie was married on Nov. 11, 1944, to Louis J. Modena, and they were married for 52 years until his passing on April 23, 1997.
Marie is survived by her loving daughter, Karen (Anthony) Rulli of Canfield; a granddaughter, Rochelle (John) Perrotta of Canfield; a brother, Reginald (Linda) Antonucci of West Middlesex; a brother-in-law, Albert (Alice) Modena of Massachusetts; two sisters-in-law, Viola Ponte of Colorado and Gloria Pedrin of Massachusetts; a nephew, Donald (Kathy) Antonucci of Boardman; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Natalie Modarelli, Clara Mancina and Rita Repasky and three brothers, Anthony, Richard and Donald Antonucci.

Carolyn Murray Powley, 85
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILL. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Saint Charles Church in Boardman for Carolyn Murray Powley, 85, formerly of Chagrin Falls from 1955 to 1981 and then Hilton Head, S.C., who died Monday.
Carolyn was born March 21, 1923 in Youngstown.
She was active in the Junior League in Cleveland and Savannah, Ga. She also volunteered at the Hilton Head Hospital and at the Museum of Natural History in Cleveland.
Her husband, William S. Powley, whom she married Jan. 13, 1945, died Dec. 8, 2001.
She leaves her children, Carolyn (John) Head, David M. (Caroline) Powley and Jean (Edward) Murphy; her sister, Jo Anne (Donald) Libert; her grandchildren, Anne (Edward) Gutshall, John (Michelle) Head, Patrick (Kathleen) Head, Robert (Dee Dee) Powley, Edward Murphy, William Murphy and Andrew Murphy; and six great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Olive Diebel Murray; and two brothers, Richard D. Murray and Thomas Murray III.

BOARDMAN Private burial was Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery for Felicia W. Shook, 83, of Boardman Community Care Center, formerly of E. Indianola Avenue in Youngstown, who died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the care center.
Her husband, James M. Shook, preceded her in death.

Elizabeth Bessie Spangel
YOUNGSTOWN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral for Elizabeth Bessie Spangel, who died Wednesday evening at her residence.
Bessie was born in Londonderry, Vt., the daughter of Harry L. and Mary M. Halligan Thrasher, coming to Youngstown when she was a child.
She attended St. Columba Grade School, Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University. Bessie was employed for 20 years at General Motors Corporation, BOC Lordstown, in the car plant cushion room. She had been an active member of the United Auto Workers, UAW Local 1112, for 18 years. She served on the Womens Committee and was a trustee on the Executive Board of the Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties (CMT) UAW CAP (Community Action Program) Council. This is the political arm of the UAW. She had served three terms as state President of the Coalition of Labor Union Women and five terms as president of the Mahoning/Trumbull Chapter of the organization.
She was past president of the Mahoning County Division of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, in 1982, she was chosen Mahoning County A.O.H. Irish Woman of the Year and was a lifetime member of the National Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was a member of I.A.A.S., of the St. Patrick Parade Committee, and past treasurer of the gathering of the Irish Clan.
Bessie was involved with several democratic organizations, Mahoning County Federated Womens Club, John F. Kennedy Womens Federated Club, Tri-County Federated Club and Federated Democratic Women of Ohio, where in 2002 she was State Honoree. She had served as a delegate several times to the Ohio State Democratic Convention as an alternate delegate of Sen. Edward Kennedy to the 1980 Democratic Convention in New York City. In 1986 she was chosen by the John F. Kennedy Club as Mahoning Countys Democratic Woman of the Year.
Bessie is survived by two daughters, Joyce Kale-Pesta and Sharon Sabatka, both of Youngstown; a sister, Laura Johnson of Youngstown; eight grandchildren, Robert W., Gregory L. and Geoffrey Kale, Janis, Carrie and Abigail Spangel, and Frank Devin and Anthony Michael Sabatka; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Steven P., she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Sangel; a sister, Harriet Thrasher; and a brother, William Thrasher.
Family and friends may call Sunday, Nov. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the McVean, Hughes & McClurkin Funeral.
The Ladies A.O.H. will have a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Richard Urbach, 66
PRUDENVILLE, MICH. Richard Urbach, 66, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Hilltop Manor Health Care Center in Roscommon, Mich.
Richard was born Sept. 2, 1942 in Youngstown to Gus and Rose (Pavlesic) Urbach.
Richard married Helen Joyce Owens in January of 1963 and then moved from Youngstown to the Prudenville area in 1975. He owned and operated Urbach Sales and Service Center for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, stock car racing and fishing.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Urbach, in August of 2007.
He is survived by three sons, Rick (Jeannie) Urbach of Roscommon, Brad (Donna) Urbach of Roscommon and Bill Urbach of Indiana; a daughter, Lori Urbach of Houghton Lake, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Lee Urbach of Ohio; a sister, Rosmarie Kotel of Ohio; nephew, Joe (Kelly) Kotel of Ohio and mother-in-law, Gretchen Owens of Ohio.
Visitation will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating.
