Albert “Ace” Antonucci, 85

BOARDMAN – There will be a memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saint Dominic Church for Albert “Ace” Antonucci, 85, who died Nov. 7, at the Hospice House.

Mr. Antonucci was born April 8, 1923 in Warren, a son of Dan and Nancy Campagna Antonucci.

He was a 1941 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and earned All City honors on their football team. Ace was inducted into the Wilson Hall of Fame and also the ABC Bowling Hall of Fame in 1989. He was an avid golfer and a Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan.

After being discharge from the Army Air Corps, he attended Youngstown State University and worked for General Electric and Kraft Foods. Mr. Antonucci retired in 1986 from the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority as a housing coordinator.

He was a member of the church and the Saint Stanislaus’ Catholic War Veterans Post 1222-OH. Ace was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving in Europe from 1941 to 1945.

Besides his wife, the former Florenz Ann Loftus, whom he married Aug. 20, 1966, he leaves a daughter, Kathleen of Boardman; nieces and nephews, Lorraine (Vinnie) Caliendo of Boardman, and James Loftus and James Savoy, both of California, Kimberly Loftus of Cleveland, and Jim Wolfe and Roger Wolfe, both of Texas; and his dog, “Happy Go Lucky.”

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, John Antonucci, Joseph Antonucci, Laura Pesa, Gilda Johnson, Mary Wolfe and Jessie Antonucci.

Paul J. “Red” Buck, 69

POLAND – Paul J. “Red” Buck, 69, of 695 E. Western Reserve Road, formerly of 831 Croton Ave. in New Castle, Pa., died the morning of Nov. 10, at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital.

Born Jan. 27, 1939 in Warren, he was the son of the late William C. and Ida Mae Richards Buck.

He was married for seven years to the former Donna L. Frazier, she survives.

Red was a self-employed auto dealer. He ran Red’s Automotive Sales and Red’s Towing on Croton Avenue, and he recently retired after 44 years of service. Red was a heavy equipment operator for 41 years, working for the Operating Engineers, Local No. 66. Red served as lead engineer and as steward on many job sites. He carried Parent Body Book for many years with the Local No. 66 in Youngstown and Monroeville, Pa.

Red was one of the largest snow plowing specialists in Lawrence County for over 40 years. Red enjoyed being involved in local and state politics his whole life. He also enjoyed being with his friends and talk about current events. Red loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He really loved shopping with his granddaughter, Maddie.

In addition to his wife, Donna L. Buck, survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy P. and Donna Buck, Christopher T. and Sylvia Buck, and Daniel P. and Sharon Donaldson Jr., all of New Castle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Lee and Fred Charles and Candice Marie and Barry Dunmire, all of New Castle; one sister, Sandra (Sandy) Graffiust of Sarasota, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry L. Graffiust and James Graffiust.

Visitation for family and friends will be held today, Nov. 12, from noon to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. in New Castle.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Committal service and entombment will take place at Castleview Mausoleum.

Elaine Marie Bertilacci DeLucia, 90

BOARDMAN – Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Saint Christine Church for Elaine Marie Bertilacci DeLucia, 90, who died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. DeLucia was born April 1, 1918 in Youngstown, a daughter of James and Lucy Orlando Bertilacci and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a graduate of The Rayen School. She worked at the Prince Menswear Store, then she was a riveter for General Fireproofing during WWII, working on airplanes and after that she was a manager for Burick Drug Store for 18 years. She then became a wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a member of the church. Elaine and her family were very involved with the Democratic Party. She was a precinct committeewoman at the Boardman 38th Precinct, under the chairmanship of Don Hanni.

Her husband, Ralph J. DeLucia Sr., whom she married Feb. 4, 1956, died May 9, 1980.

She leaves a daughter, Ms. Margo DeLucia of Boardman; a son, Ralph J. DeLucia Jr. of Boardman; her faithful companion, her dog Bianca; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Rose Bertilacci, Catherine (John) Lozier and Ms. Margaret Bertilacci; and a brother, Joseph R. (June) Bertilacci.

Beathea A. Dempsey, 90

AUSTINTOWN – A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at the Smith Corners United Methodist Church for Beathea A. Dempsey, 90, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Austinwoods Care Center.

Beathea was born Dec. 16, 1917 in Niles, the daughter of James and Ethel (Hansen) Annos.

She was a teller for 25 years for the Dollar Savings & Trust Company, retiring in 1973. Beathea was a member of the church and its Women’s Society.

Her husband, Charles Dempsey, whom she marred Dec. 22, 1939, passed away Nov. 19, 1975.

She leaves one daughter, Sandra J. (Gary) Reel of Austintown; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) West of Cleveland, John C. Evans of Youngstown, Charles Dempsey of South Carolina, Michelle (Jarred) Combis of Boardman, Emily Gray of Brunswick and David (Elizabeth) Reel of Hubbard; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Frederick Dempsey.

There will be no calling hours.

Pauline Driscall, 88

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Pauline Driscall, 88, who departed this life Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the Assumption Village.

Mrs. Driscall was born April 15, 1920, in Triana, Ala., a daughter of Haley and Velma Garth Harris, coming to Youngstown in 1943.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Temple Emmanuel Seven Day Adventist Church.

Her husband, Willie V., whom she married in 1949, passed away, Aug. 19, 1990.

Pauline leaves to cherish her precious memory, three loving daughters, Thelma Barker of Decatur, Ala., Mary (Craig) Mangie of Canfield, and Edna Taylor, of Cleveland; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Haley Harris; a granddaughter, Tasha Taylor; and a grandson, Deron Mangie.

Faith Hartford

NEW WATERFORD – Faith Hartford went to be with her Lord on Nov. 10, 2008. She died at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center after a short illness, with her loving family by her side.

Faith was born on March 26, 1934 in Washington, the second child of Einer and Mildred Nelson. She grew up in Manassas, Va.

On Dec. 31, 1955, she married Clement Hartford. They moved to Minot, Maine where they raised their four children. Faith was an amazing mother and wife who could and did do anything she set her mind to, from teaching Girl Scouts how to sew to helping her husband coach Little League to being the office manager of a large construction company in Florida.

Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and friends and serving her Lord as a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ in North Lima.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 52 years, Clement; her daughter, Sharon and her husband, Rick Petrie, and their children, Adam and Kathryn of Minot, Maine; her son, Tom and his wife, Jessica Hartford, and his son, Shawn of Minot; her son, Eric and his wife, Wendy Hartford, and their daughter, Monica of Rockledge, Fla.; her son, Matthew and his wife, Jessica Hartford, and their children, Leah, Joel and Jadon of New Waterford.

Attelio “Teo” Antonio Marconi, 81

BOYNTON BEACH, FLA. – Attelio “Teo” Antonio Marconi passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, of complications from diabetes at the age of 81 in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Teo, a longtime resident of Youngstown, was born on Sept. 25, 1927, to Albert and Flora Marconi.

He was a 1947 graduate of East High School. He spent two years in the armed services, during which time he served as Master Sergeant in the Korean War and he also served as president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union in Youngstown from which he retired in 1986.

Teo married Kathryn Lucille Bart from Struthers, on April 24, 1954. After spending 32 years together with all of their family in Poland, they relocated to Wellington, Fla., to be close to their children.

Teo is survived by his wife, Kathryn; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Beth Marconi of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter, Janice O’Neal of Boca Raton, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanine and Rafael Heria and Jody and Socrates Romay of Wellington; as well as a sister and brother, Viola Celli and Albert Marconi both of Poland. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Rafael Heria, Jack O’Neal, Lisa Jakubuski, and Paul Corner; and three beautiful great-grandchildren.

The Marconi family would like to invite family and friends to calling hours at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.

A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass at the Holy Family Church also in Poland.

Teo’s final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery next to his loved ones who preceded him in death, his parents, Albert and Flora Marconi, and sister and brother-in-law, John and Gloria (Marconi) Rubosky.

Teo had a unique ability to make long lasting friendships wherever he went. In both work and play, he touched the hearts of many. Let his love of life, his strength in fighting illness and his peace and dignity in death inspire us all.

Carolyn Murray Powley, 85

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILL. – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Saint Charles Church in Boardman, for Carolyn Murray Powley, 85, formerly of Chagrin Falls from 1955 to 1981 and then Hilton Head, S.C., who died Monday.

Carolyn was born March 21, 1923, in Youngstown. She was active in the Junior League in Cleveland and Savannah, Ga. She also volunteered at the Hilton Head Hospital and at the Museum of Natural History in Cleveland.

Her husband, William S. Powley, whom she married Jan. 13, 1945, died Dec. 8, 2001.

She leaves her children, Carolyn (John) Head, David M. (Caroline) Powley and Jean (Edward) Murphy; her sister, Jo Anne (Donald) Libert; her grandchildren, Anne (Edward) Gutshall, John (Michelle) Head, Patrick (Kathleen) Head, Robert (Dee Dee) Powley, Edward Murphy, William Murphy and Andrew Murphy; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Olive Diebel Murray and brother, Richard D. Murray.

Joseph Radetic, 54

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church for Joseph Radetic, 54, who entered into rest Sunday.

He was born April 21, 1954 in Croatia, the son of Valentine and Nada Radetic, coming to the United States in 1966.

He was a graduate of Ursuline High School, and had been self employed as an appliance technician. He was a member of the church.

Joseph will be sadly missed by many, including his parents, Valentine and Nada Radetic of Austintown; his wife, the former Anita Gulic, whom he married June 11, 1988; two sons, Mark and Michael Radetic; and a brother, James Radetic of Youngstown.

He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Nikol and Kristina Radetic.

Melissa Renee Ramirez, 37

YOUNGSTOWN – Melissa Renee Ramirez, 37, of Salt Springs Road, passed away unexpectedly at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, in Warren.

She was born in Warren on Feb. 26, 1971, the daughter of Glenda Johns.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Ramirez, whom she married in 2002; four sons, Jeff A. Reider, James L. Henry, Justin C. Henry and Jake A. Henry, all of Leavittsburg; four stepchildren, Ricardo J. Ramierz of Austintown, Elizabeth Ramirez of Youngstown, Alicia R. Ramirez of Champion and Luis A. Ramirez of Youngstown; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; mother, Glenda Johns of Leavittsburg; two brothers, Carmen D. Johns and Charles D. Johns and a sister, Christina Walker, all of Niles.

Calling hours will be today, Nov. 12, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

Ellen Margaret Rossvanes, 77

BOARDMAN – There will be services at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Boardman, with Fr. Tom Constantine for Ellen Margaret Rossvanes, 77, who died Tuesday morning at Greenbriar Health Care Center.

She was born March 12, 1931, in Farrell, Pa., a daughter of Frank and Victoria Morocco Ciotola and had been a Youngstown area resident since 1977.

Ellen was a graduate of Farrell High School with the class of 1949 and attended Youngstown College. She worked at Westinghouse in Sharon, Pa., and the Youngstown Board of Education as executive assistant to four superintendents retiring in 1997.

She was a member of St John Greek Orthodox Church and it’s choir for over 25 years, and was a member of International Association of Administrative Professionals.

Ellen was a talented seamstress, gifted musician and attended courses to become “Master Gardener.”

Ellen was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and was a generous and kind friend to all.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Chuck Rossvanes, whom she married Jan. 9, 1965; a daughter, Laurie Ann (Gary) Housemeyer of Cincinnati; a son, Christopher (Wendy) Rossvanes of Canfield; a brother, Robert Ciotola of Hubbard; and five grandchildren, Victoria, Olivia and Charles Housemeyer and Benjamin and Nathan Rossvanes.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an older brother, Frank Ciotola.

Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, where there will be a Trisagion service at 6:30 p.m. and at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Greek Orthodox Church.

Rose M. Savini, 80

GIRARD – Rose M. Savini, 80, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Rose was born Aug. 6, 1928 to the late Nicholas and Victoria DiBernardo Franco in Niles.

She worked 18 years for Sparkle Market in Girard and was a member of St. Rose Church. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, going to Avon Oaks Ballroom to dance, and was a gambling enthusiast.

She is survived by her children, Joseph A. Savini of Girard, Terri L. Brown of Youngstown, Tina Savini of Bothel, Wash., and Marie Savini of Canton; a brother, Dominic Franco of Niles; two grandchildren, Arian and Astraea O’Conner; two great-grandchildren, Lucien Dunlap and Anthony O’Connor; and sister-in-laws, Viola and Pauline Franco, Mary MacKendrick, and Shirley “Kitty” Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Savini, whom she married Feb. 3, 1951 and who died April 1, 2007; sisters, Mary Belcastro, Edith Lawson, Minnie Edgar, and Lucille Fusco; and three brothers, Joseph, Tony and James Franco.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home where visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Internment will be at St. Stephens Cemetery.

Joseph Scofinsky, 88

HUBBARD – Funeral services will be on Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Kirila Funeral Home for Joseph Scofinsky, 88, who died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2008, at the Liberty Health Care Center.

He was born Oct. 20, 1920 in Campbell, a son of the late John and Mary Vysniansky Scofinsky.

Joseph was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served during WWII. He worked as an electrician in the rod and wire department at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., retiring after 33 years of service.

He enjoyed horse racing, cooking, gardening and his family.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Anderson, whom he married Oct. 1, 1949; two daughters, Betty (Tim) Meeds of Sebring and Jean (Darrell) Thompson of Hubbard; a brother, Steve Scofinsky of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Wayne Jordan, Angela Greenawalt, Molly (John) Cotofan and Amanda Meeds.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Andrew, John, George and Alfred Scofinsky; and three sisters, Leona (infant), Mary Tyminski and Irene Carvell.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff at the Liberty Health Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to Joseph.

Interment will be at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Todor “Ted” Varjaski, 76

YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, for Mr. Todor “Ted” Varjaski, 76, who entered into rest Tuesday morning at his home.

He was born June 9, 1932 in Serbia, the son of the late Milic and Milica (Grabich) Varjaski, coming to the United States in 1968.

He was self-employed as a mechanic and the owner of Ted’s Auto Repair & Majors Towing on the city’s west side. He retired in 2000.

He was a member of the church.

Ted will be sadly missed by many, including his wife, the former Milanka (Millie) Vlasic, whom he married May 25, 1957; his son, Mike (Mary) Varjaski of Youngstown; and his granddaughter, Maci Marie Varjaski also of Youngstown.
