Pupils to learn about water at annual festival

WARREN — The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will have its annual Community Waters Festival at Packard Park on Monday and next Tuesday.

Nearly 500 fourth-graders from Warren City School's six elementary schools are scheduled to attend the outdoor educational event.

The program will be from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with learning stations scattered throughout the park. The pupils will learn about water as a natural resource through interactive activities and presentations.

They'll become water molecules and travel through the water cycle, see the effects of pollution from our yards and automobiles on our community waters, make and eat their own beaver lodges, and learn about the dynamics of streams.

Station presenters include natural resource experts from the state and local levels along with independent environmental educators.

Bird-of-prey show

The finale for this year's program will include a bird-of-prey show made possible by a grant from the Warren Chamber of Commerce Education, Civic and Cultural Foundation.

The pupils will be treated to a live show, including owls and hawks, from Lake Milton Raptor Center, as well as the Birds in Flight Sanctuary.

Other corporate sponsors of the festival include the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, the Eastwood Mall, and John Perdue Inc.

For further information and entry forms, interested students or teachers can go to www.swcd.co.trumbull.oh.us, or call SWCD education coordinator Kelly Hardval at (330) 637-2056, Ext. 110.
