Judge's order: No dogs bigger than Chihuahua
His two dogs attacked a man and his terrier.
YOUNGSTOWN A judge ordered a Youngstown man convicted of two counts of owning or harboring vicious dogs to never own a canine any larger than a Chihuahua.
Municipal Court Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly also sentenced Jammie Traylor of Austintown on Friday to 90 days in the Mahoning County Jail, a $750 fine and two years' probation.
Traylor began serving his sentence Friday. A jury found Traylor, 20, guilty of the two misdemeanors last month.
Police say Traylor's two large Cane Corsos, an Italian mastiff breed, attacked David Roch of Youngstown and Maggy, his small terrier, near Mill Creek MetroParks on April 18.
Roch said he was walking Maggy on a leash near the park when Traylor's two large dogs approached them. Roch testified he tried to get out of their way by going to a deck at the house of Judge Maureen Cronin of county common pleas court.
One of Traylor's dogs grabbed his hand after he lifted the terrier to protect her. He fell to the ground and let Maggy go after being bitten.
The attack left Roch with disconnected tendons and Maggy with bites on one of her ears, her head and rear.
A Mill Creek MetroParks police officer used a shotgun to kill one dog behind Judge Cronin's house on Canfield Road. The second dog ran near Kiwatha Drive and was shot and killed by a city patrolman.
Judge Kobly also ordered Traylor to pay full medical restitution to Roch for his injuries and those to Maggy.
Roch retired from the city fire department in 2006 with 18 years' service and could not be reached Friday night.
