Commission changes distribution formula
LISBON The Columbiana County Budget Commission voted unanimously Monday for an alternative distribution formula for local government funds doled out by the state in 2007.
The commission is composed of county Auditor Nancy Milliken, Treasurer Linda Bolon and Prosecutor Robert Herron.
They voted to reject one formula that favored East Liverpool as the subdivision with the largest population in the county. Prior to a change in state law, only one distribution formula was available. Under it, East Liverpool was able to get much larger share of the local government funds because it was the biggest city.
The budget commission also voted to adopt an alternative formula under which all townships, villages and cities, and the county parks district get $15,000. They also get extra funds based on population. A majority of townships, villages and cities adopted the alternative formula.
Milliken said she is not sure how much the county will receive overall in 2007.
